Pittsburgh summer camps

This is the last summer that Heather can go to our old daycare and I think as a 7 year old it won't be as interesting for her anyway. So before the weekend I'm trying to gather up ideas for camps she can go to this year and in future years.

So far I will be looking into:
Science Center
Pittsburgh Center for the Arts
Camp Deer Creek
Mattress Factory
Union Project
Frick Arts & Historical Society
Frick Park
JCC (squirrel hill)

Any other ideas - city or near Greentree locations preferred. Though to be of benefit to everyone on the board, feel free to share camps in other areas, too.

Thanks!

Re: Pittsburgh summer camps

  • Sarah Heinz House offers camps in two weeks sessions. Jackson did one last summer. The do swimming, trips to the splash park, etc. They have a sleep away camp as well when she gets a little older.

  • My nieces have gone to horse camp in Aliquippa.  They did the horse part of it (for school age kids) but they also have a little farmers camp for kids as young as 4.

  • Winchester Thurston, Chatham and the Oakland YMCA also offer some camps. CMU offered a few camps for younger kids last summer. Not sure what they're doing this year.

  • They are having a "summer camp expo" at Latitude 40 in Robinson on March 15.  I saw it in one of the macaronikid emails I get.  I thought it would interesting to go but Keefer's a little too young.  We did the two week camp at our YMCA and will probably do the same this summer.

I saw that the Pittsburgh Zoo has camps in my member newsletter.  They sounded like fun.
