Name game :-)

Looking for some suggestions for Baby Boy, hoping you ladies cam help out :-). We can not agree on anything because my husband is crazy!

To give you an idea his suggestions are Arteyu and Falcor (yes from The Neverending Story for those of you that know the movie) and I like Irish sounding names like Declan, Kian, & Ronin. Needless to say we are getting no where lol.

Looking for suggestions of uncommon but not off the wall names, please help :-)

Re: Name game :-)

  • I like Levi and August.  They aren't so uncommon that people wouldn't know how to spell or pronounce it, but there likely won't be any other kids in his class with that name.

  • I have a friend who is hardcore Irish Catholic, her boys names are Coyle & Cayce , and  one of her girls is named Cael (I think it's pronounced Kyle) which is more of a unisex name, too.  I also like the names Rowan and Grier.

  • ^^^^ assuming you want to go with the Irish sounding name.

I have always wanted to use the name Gabriel, but now that my last name is Garrapy, I don't think I will.  Gabe Garrapy sounds awful to me :(  Stupid DH and his weirdo last name! lol ;)

  • Chiming in one more time to say that I have a weird name, and I love it!

  • Kiernan or Kieran.

DH and I had the same talk about names.  He wants something "normal" and I told him I don't want anything that 10 kids in their class will also have.  We both kind of liked Connor and Oliver.  I think Oliver is really popular right now though.

  • Whenever DH and I talk about boy names, we never find anything we like or agree on. I don't really have any ideas for you but I do have a fun activity that DH and I do. We watch the credits to a movie or video game and start yelling out people's first names with our last name to see if it fits. It's pretty fun.

    Good luck on your quest.

  • Main advice I can give is to not use a name that is hard to pronounce or spell.  That poor kid will grow up HATING their name because they will constantly have to correct people.  As someone that grew up with an uncommon name and having it butchered all the time, it's so annoying to have your name mispronounced/misspelled all the time.  End rant :)

As for names, I like the ones you like.  The ones your DH has picked are a little too off the beaten path for me.  Other suggestions, Aeden, Arden/Ardan, Kane.

  • Some I like, but won't be using (we are doing family names, whenever our time comes):

    Eamon
    Milo
    Dale
    Reeve
    Britton
    Auster

And a blogger I like just did a post about baby boy names she likes here.

  • This should go under Confessions, but...I secretly love Indiana as a name.  I am proud of my state and I LOVE Indiana Jones.  Maybe as a middle name...?  I know, it's kind of cray

  • Is he into other kid's fantasy movies from that era, or just Neverending Story? Jareth or Westley both meet the theme but are slightly more normal sounding. ;)

    (I am mostly kidding. Mostly.)

H and I decided ages ago that our hypothetical future son would be Daniel James - both family names. But here are a few I like that probably won't get used:

    Asher
    Gabriel
    Jayden
    Baxter

  • Just to be clear Arteyu and Falcor are NOT options :-). We have talked about Jareth and Westley but ultimately decided no.

    Thanks for the suggestions ladies!

I could pull up some of the names we've used on the farm.  We've named 100s of animals over the years most of them are unique.  But I highly doubt you want to think of a goat everytime you say your son's name!

I usually search baby names by origin to come up with them.

  • I don't have any suggestions, sorry.  We have a set first and middle name if the baby is a girl.  I told H last week that we need to discuss boy names and he said that he thought we were naming the baby Jack if it's a boy.  I have always loved Jack.  After H said that, I was kind of like, eh, Jack.  I think it's still up for discussion.
  • I've met a couple of boys named Talon/Talan. Caelan, Quinn...
    I like Declan!

  • Declan is gaining popularity these days I know 3 little boys named Declan! I have a long list of girls names - the only boy names I have are :
    Liam ( also popular)
    Brayden
    Quinn

I think I got tired of playing the game that night after the girl list! Dh also approved these names!
  • Thanks for the suggestions ladies!
