How many of you had spotting? TMI-ish

I posted on GP about the teensiest bit of spotting on Thursday, and now it's back. I had a dime-sized amount in my underwear and then a teeny bit when I wiped. It's brown. Combined with a lowish beta, I'm freaking the F out.

  • When it comes to spotting, brown is the best of colors you can have because it's old blood. Baby is probably just getting comfy and knocking old blood loose. I know it's way easier said than done, but try not to worry. Spotting is relatively common. I hope you feel better after you get your betas tomorrow. Hang in there! ((Hugs))

I had spotting with both my kids. The first started around 5 weeks and started out brown, then turned to pink and then red. Turned out to be a sub chorionic hematoma (SCH). The bleeding lasted on and off until about week 12. I never really had any bad cramping with it. Just a bit of menstrual type cramping which my doc contributed to my uterus stretching. All turned out well and I have a perfectly healthy 3 yr old from it.

With DS I had no early bleeding but had red bleeding around week 15. My doc just said it was due to a sensitive cervix. Again all turned out well.

I did have to get extra Rhogam shots each time though due to the bleeding since I'm Rh negative and DH is positive.

I know it's easier said than done, but try to remain positive. there could be lots of causes and reasons for bleeding. Not all bad. Praying its nothing and all is well.

  • Thanks, ladies. It seems to have subsided. DH is convinced it was from celebration sex yesterday. I'm blaming it on that until I know more. And eating Ben & Jerry's.

  • I spotted early on before I knew I was pg.  Thought it was AF coming.  It could definitely be from celebration sex or from baby nuzzling into your ute.  FX it's nothing bad!

  • I bled the first 2 weeks of my first pregnancy, often more than just spotting. I also spotted some with #2. There are various reasons it can happen, many of which are totally normal. I've no experience with IVF, but I know lots of IVF alumni were told that spotting can be a very normal effect. I hope it stays away so you can have a little peace of mind.

  • I spotted with both- much more with this one then my first. In fact I was sure I had miscarrying multiple times with this one but here I am 34 weeks pregnant! The first question the nurses always ask with spotting is if you have had sex recently. I would definitely blame it on that!!! FX for your next beta tomorrow!!!

  • I spotted with all of my pregnancies. Usually the culprits were sex and bowel movements. Did they check your progesterone with your beta? That's the only thing I'd check on if I were you. And like the others said, brown is better than red. I'd bet money it was from your celebration. Congratulations!

  • I spotted basically the entire first trimester. It started before my BFP (so I thought AF was coming) and continued on and off until 11ish weeks. I was on pelvic rest and took it very easy

  • I spotted with both my pregnancies. And it could most certainly be from ST. Your cervix has so much extra blood in it and it's irritated, then a little hanky panky makes it more angry. Enjoy the ice cream! And try to breathe easy (though I know it's SO hard)

  • I had bleeding about 2-3 days before my missed period and a couple days after my BFP. I really thought AF was on her way. I totally get being anxious. I had anxiety until I hit viability day. 3T definitely messes with your brain a bit. Good luck at your beta today! Keep us posted.

  • I had cramping and spotting before my BFP and beta, I think it was 7dp5dt and I thought I was out. Then it disappeared until maybe 7 weeks. Then it was bright red and was off and on for about three weeks. I know it's nerve racking. The nurse told me that 75% of their ivf patients had spotting after a positive beta.

  • Totally could be from ST. It can irritate your cervix wayyyy more than when you're not pg. I had a little last week after ST.

Spotting is common in pregnancy and I think especially common in cases of IVf. Sorry you're dealing with it, though.

  • I had a day of heavy spotting a couple of weeks ago and it was mostly red. It turned brown after that first day, but took a few more days to fully go away. A couple of days after it was gone, DH and I had ST and some minor brown spotting came back for nearly a week. The doc at my appt last week was unconcerned since everything else is looking good.

It's panic-inducing for sure. I had to keep telling myself everything was fine...brown is totally okay...try to relax. It took a while, but I finally stopped freaking myself out every time I checked my pantyliner.

  • I had brown spotting for almost 2 weeks in between 7-9 preg. On referred to it as the baby "snuggling in."

Definitely can be stressful though when you see that so early in pregnancy. I'm sorry :(

  • Brown is the colour you would want to see if u spot. Sorry if I missed a precious post but what do u mean by low betas? Whether they are doubling is the most concerning thing rather than where they start.

With DS2 I spotted at five weeks. I think down there was irritated by my suppositories but I freaked the f out!
