40th birthday party ideas?

My husband turns 40 in may. i was thinking of planning a camping trip for our little family and his friends.  he is concerned that it might be too cold/rainy in May. i don't know if i'm really up for hosting a big party for friends and his whole family.... any other low key ideas? i want to do something for him its just i've got a lot going on right now....

Re: 40th birthday party ideas?

  • A friend of mine recently did an open house type party for her husband's 50th. Friends and family could come by between noon and 10pm. There were food and games out, snack foods and drinks. It was fun and pretty low key. Assuming you have friends and family that would not be demanding of you, it wouldn't be too hard.

  • You could always plan the camping trip for later in the summer and "give" it to him on his birthday.  Wrap up some camping stuff that you already have...make a little treasure hunt or think of some cute way to tell him it.  If he has just a few close friends that would be coming with him on the trip you could always just invite them over for the reveal.  (Even if they already knew.)  Make it easy and do camp foods - s'mores, hot dogs, etc.
  • oops...i thought it was a surprise for him.  At any rate, you could still have a planning party on his actual birthday to get ready for the big event down the road.
  • cute idea! thanks!
  • For my husband's 40th I reserved a private area at a restaurant/bar. It was low key and didn't take a lot of organizing on my part - I went with one of their catering options and brought a few decorations and a cake.

that's a good idea and i'm thinking of going that route. i'm starting to think of venue idea options. this can easily get pricey so i need to find a place that's pretty affordable.  i have an email in to church brew works...we'll see. if anyone has any other suggestions of venues i'd love to hear them!
