Neighbor's Barking Dogs

Hi everyone,

I posted this Gardening and Landscaping but thought I'd try it here:

The street behind us has many homes and many barking dogs. I'm talking all morning so far and this has been going on for a year. I seriously don't know which houses the dogs are barking from, but we do want to write an anonymous note as nicely as possible. Any tips on how to say it kindly and which houses to send the note to without sounding too accusatory?

Thank you!!

Re: Neighbor's Barking Dogs

  • Do you live in an HOA?
  • No, it's a nice street but no official HOA. And our back yard backs up to a different street's back yard, so it's them. :(
  • I would find out which houses the dogs are at before doing anything. We have this type of issus as well. One of the barking dogs is our next door neighbors. When it gets real bad we will call her. She says she doesn't hear him but I don't see how that's possible. The other dogs are across the alley backed up to our back yard like u explained. Those dogs live outside 24/7- 365 days of the year. I don't think the owners care much about them so I usually end up calling animal control on them. Not much is ever done about it though.

  • Okay thank you!
  • I don't care for anonymous notes. If you want your neighbors to show you the respect of bringing their dogs in, then you should at least show them the respect of signing your name.

  • I also don't like the idea of them knowing who we are because if they don't do anything, then they know exactly who we are if it gets worse. We don't know any of the people.
  • We had a neighbors dog who barked all the time.  It would sometimes start at 4am, sometimes go all night, all day. It was a small dog, VERY high pitched bark, and they would leave the poor thing outside all the time (and its freezing here).  We talked to neighbors and we all wanted to do something, but no one wanted to be the one to do it.  Someone finally called animal control (who gave them a written notice of the complaint) and the issue has gotten so much better.
  • This worked for my parents.  Might work for you.  Go out and buy a dog whistle.  When the dogs bark, blow it.  In my parents case, the dogs weren't left outside 24/7, but it did improve the situation.
