Fat Tuesday Randoms!

Re: Fat Tuesday Randoms!

  • I'd totally forgotten lent starts tomorrow. I'm the world's worst catholic.

I'd ridiculously excited the boys love their superhero capes. I had fears I'd spend all this time picking out fabric and making them, only to have them be totally ignored. Instead, Michael doesn't want to take his off. :D

  • The area next to where we live (in our school district) has declared a State of Emergency.  DH's job is in that town, so his office closed early yesterday and is closed today.  School is closed, too.  I'm so jealous of their impromptu man day!

We are planning our girls 40th b-day trip.  One option is to stay in a room together (there are 5 of us), but if we look in to 2 separate rooms we can save $500 per person.  I think $500 is worth splitting up to sleep.  I hope my friends agree!
  • DH comes home tonight from his mini-vacation in FL with his parents!

We had an ice storm last night here in Houston and I feel badly for the newly budding trees. I passed a blooming magnolia this morning that was glistening in the gray air, but I don't think it will be glistening after today!

Locals call the weather here "bipolar" and I would have to agree. It was 82 and humid on Saturday and 28 this morning. This is just nuts. I know this is nothing compared to the cold up north, but these swings in temps mean lots of sickness going around!!

I'm tired of the disparity going on in my work team. It's become so prevalent lately, and it's so frustrating. We have a teammate who has been on our team for 2 yrs and still can't handle more than one project at a time. And bc she's been with the company, in one capactiy or another, for more than 10 yrs, she's at least 2 grade levels higher than me, meaning she makes a heck of a lot more $ (as she's also in a higher COL city). I've had to bail her out twice so far, bc she would have missed deadlines. The boss knows this - I just have to hope that something is or will be done about this bc this is pushing me out, mentally and phsycially.

  • DD came home from school and asked to bake cookies last week because a classmate and her mom did so. I was happy to oblige and we made chocolate chip cookies together this weekend. Took them in and all was good. Apparently as she was leaving yesterday the teachers told her thank you for the cookies and she replies 'you're welcome! I'll bring more tomorrow!' Clearly we have to work on not making promises for baked goods without clearing with mom first ;)
  • She's so thoughtful! (It must be in the name.) :P

I'm not sure I can take the cold any longer. I hate winter to begin with and really think I have SAD. This is not helping. I haven't run in forever because of the cold which makes me even more down. I was in such a bad mood last night and feel like I've been acting like a terrible mom because of my bad mood. Ugh!!!!

I think I'm starting to take some baby steps in the direction of my own business. I still need to gain some experience first but for the first time I'm feeling like at some point this could come true. Exciting!!

I'm obsessed with nail polish lately. I used to have just a couple colors and now I'm starting a decent collection. I used to only paint my toenails but I'm loving painting my fingernails lately.

Dd's bday party is about 3 months away but I'm ready to start planning. I wish there was a market for little kid bday planning because I kind of love all the pinteresty stuff (even though I'm not actually on Pinterest). I'm crafty when it comes to bdays!

  • Haha Clare - then you can come up next time and assist her with baking 4 dozen cookies. Fair warning - she gets bored after the first half dozen :P
  • I am so indecisive about paint colors.  I was all set to pain our kitchen a blue/gray color, but when we tested it out, I just didn't feel like it worked for our kitchen.  So I covered my entire wall with different color paint samples, and I am now pretty sure that we are keeping it the color that it was. On the plus side, we decided to paint our powder room the blue/gray and I love it.

I hate my job so f'ing much right now.

Next week is kindergarten registration for Mason.  Pass the vodka.

  • I almost missed that today is Fat Tuesday and I used to live in New Orleans! That's like sacrilege! I didn't plan ahead though and so I don't have the stuff to make an appropriate dinner, so I think we may be celebrating Fat Wednesday at our house this year ;-)
  • I started a new job last Monday. My commute is DRAMATICALLY different and so is my mood at the end of the day. And pluses for more pay and vacation - both of which I wasn't sure would happen. WAHOOO!  <:-P

Congrats! I made a similar change and it's amazing what a better commute does for you:)
  • i just put a dutch oven full of pork and kraut into the oven... and really am happy to have it for dinner, but am worried that I will end up needing to eat it all week for lunch.  Hmm, wonder if my parents have plans for dinner.

We are leaving for Great Wolf Lodge in Sandusky as soon as I leave work today and spending a couple nights there.  I hope we enjoy it as much as I think we will.  On another note, our house is officially on the market as of today.

  • I think I'm just as excited as the kids to be going to Disney on Ice!  Is that weird?  I've never seen an "on ice" show and I love all things Disney.

  • lala-I'm super excited, too!  I've never been to an ice skating show either, so I am giddy to head there tomorrow night.  I'll let you know how it is on Thursday! :)
