NBR- Pancake Tuesday!!!

An excuse for breakfast for dinner!!! Sorry no pic since I am mobile.

Who is having pancakes or some equally awesome fat filled meal tonight?

Re: NBR- Pancake Tuesday!!!

  • I feel like I missing out on something awesome by not doing this.  Maybe it's where I live? I've never done anything for Fat Tuesday.

  • I haven't either.  I don't think it's a big thing in the northeast.

  • Pancakes for dinner sounds way better than the buffalo chicken casserole I am supposed to make. Le sigh

An interesting discussion of all the names for Shrove/Fat/Pancake Tuesday and the associated foods:

I think its a Canadian tradition. It has always been one of my favourite days of the year.
Most people don't do it for any religious reason, more as an excuse for pancakes!

@snshne322 @revjen @aggiebug you could start your own traditions!
  • I have never heard of Pancake Tuesday. Lancaster County PA is big on Fasnacht Day. (A doughnut, often potato in nature that is traditionally made in the days before lent to use up all the lard, butter, and sugar left in the cupboard. All, and yes many places actually fry them in lard to this day). It's a HUGE fundraiser for churches around here and my coworker waited in a 2.5 hour line to get the fasnacht's she had reserved at her local church last night.

However you celebrate, may the sweets and beads be plentiful today!

  • Hmmm... Husband is working late and won't be home for dinner suddenly...

    Pancaaaaakes for dinner.

    Two problems.
Mine need to be gluten free.
And I can't flip a pancake to save my life. They always turn out burnt and falling apart. Pancakes are hubster's job! What do I do? I want pancakes!!!

  • I grew up in a Polish community where we had Paczki's on fat Tuesday. They were delicious, just not the prune flavored :-S.

Here are two recipes I found for GF pancakes.  I haven't tested either but they look good, and Wellness Mama generally has great recipes, so I trust they'll turn out.

Oooo, I've got almond flour and coconut flour already.  What to choose what to choose.
And here I was thinking I'd just end up doing the two eggs, one banana fake pancake thing.

  • Too bad I already have something cooking in the crockpot, this would have been the perfect night for Zucchini Corn Cakes.

I'm going to do the almond flour recipe because in my experience, coconut flour is a little... temperamental.  Almond flour is a little easier to work with.

Yeah.  It's cheaper, but you have to use so many eggs since it's incredibly absorbent.  I love making cakes with it though.

I have made them in the past and they are yummy served with warm applesauce over them (especially my mom's homemade applesauce).

ohhhhh! good call! I never thought of applesauce on pancakes. That's a great way to cut down on the sugar. I may try that tonight!

  • I'm shocked by how many people haven't heard of Pancake Tuesday. It used to be one of my favourite days as a kid. We always made pancakes for lunch at school and then we'd get them again for dinner at home that night.
