WIJFR: Winger by Andrew Smith (NS)

I either saw this book on here or on a Nestie's blog, I can't remember. But. This book is fantastic. It's about a 14-yr junior at a boarding school for bad kids, who lives in the bad kid dorm (although his antics are more on the funny, mischevious, immature side than actually being bad), and is the winger on his rugby team. I know next to nothing about rugby, but that didn't matter at all. I actually laughed out loud a couple times, and definitely choked on my drink once. I recommended it to a friend based on its comic appeal when I was about halfway through. I just finished, and holy book hangover. Just... wow. If this book isn't on your to-read list, it should be.

  • I loved this book!  I read it after @Young_Love posted about it on her blog and I am so glad I tried it.  I want to read some of Andrew Smith's other books, I just haven't gotten around to them yet.

I'm pretty sure STICK is the only other one of his that is straight-up realistic like WINGER. The rest of them all have some pretty bizarre fantasy element, from what I understand. I just finished GRASSHOPPER JUNGLE and that was seriously the weirdest book I have ever read in my life. The writing was great, but OMG SO WEIRD.
