Anyone observing Lent this year?

My daughter goes to Catholic school and she'll be officially doing Lent for the first time this year. Husband kind of observes - he begrudgingly does meatless Fridays and goes to services, but rarely gives up anything. I'm not Catholic so I get out of it.
I'm a vegetarian and Fridays is one of our scheduled "eat out" days -- so it's one of the only days in the week where Husband eats meat. This is why it's "begrudgingly." That and it's such a fun word to say.
I'm going to give up leaving trash in my car each day. I love having a clean car but once I clean it it's only a few days before I have it looking like a trash compactor again. For me the purpose of giving something up is so whenever you miss it/think about it you are supposed to remember the sacrifice Christ made. So whenever I'm exhausted at the end of the day and too tired to clean out the car it will be a great time to remember what Christ did despite the number of times he must have felt exhausted and drained.
(dup for some...)
We always do something MORE or BETTER instead of giving anything up. Last year I did an ab workout every day of Lent. Since I already have a hardcore workout now, this year I'm keep a "positive" journal. I've been stuck under a black cloud and I want to stop being so negative. I plan on keeping track of at least one positive/good thing each day.

An amazing book I just read on the subject is called "One Thousand Gifts", it's about a woman who was challenged over a year to write down one thousand gifts that God had given her and the journey she went on through it. It was absolutely amazing and so inspiring to try and keep a positive outlook. I highly recommend it!
We had services tonight, and I didn't have meat today but I don't really follow that anymore. I grew up Catholic and still hate the idea of giving up something for Lent. I try to be more mindful of my behavior and how it affects others during this time, though.

Like @packfan20 , we add more as well. We are writing down three positive things that we are thankful for each night before bed. So far we are both really enjoying this. We are also taking the money we normally budget for a dinner out each week and adding it to our weekly tithe at church.
