Re: QOTD 3/5

  • I'm believe in God and I'm Christian but I don't use the word 'religious' to describe myself.  I've never liked the word.

  • Not even remotely. I was brought up Catholic but H and I don't practice at all.

  • I, too, don't like the term religious. We are Christian and go to church, but not every week.

  • Not at all.  This is the first year I'm doing something for lent in over a decade.  It's more to see if I can, than anything else.

I do believe in a higher power, but not in organized religion.

  • Roman Catholic (I know I'm really subtle about it).  I was raised Episcopalian and converted to Catholicism at 18.  Met DH 4 years later and he was Catholic too, so it worked out well :)

  • No. Like many others, I believe in a higher power but not organized religion.

I was raised Catholic, but have serious issues with the church. Today,my grandmother tried to guilt me into getting ashes...it's not going to happen, we have this argument every year. I also don't believe in giving things up for Lent. When I went to Catholic school, we were always taught to do more for others during Lent instead of giving things up. I believe more in that philosophy.

  • I was raised Catholic, and even though I no longer practice that religion, I do consider myself religious.  H and I have talked recently about going to church and making that a habit, but we haven't committed to it yet.

  • I grew up going to a bunch different churches, eventually I went to my own that was non-domination in high school. I go back to it at times, but not lately because it's far-away. There a new church that seems similar I want to try that close by, but Sunday mornings is the only morning H and I have together... I know it's a bad excuse, but I love just staying cuddled up in bed Sundays.

So all that to say the same as others, I believe in God but I wouldn't say I'm religious.

  • My husband and I were both raised catholic but no longer practice. Neither of us have belonged to a church since about high school. He believes there is some higher power up there just not sure what and I am unsure in general if I believe at all. We do not plan on doing a Baptism and both our non-practicing families have strong opinions on the matter.
  • We aren't planning on doing a baby baptism either (when the time comes) and I'm sure that will cause problems with my husband's family becuase they are ALL Catholic!

  • No, neither of us are. I occasionally went to church growing up. We were a member of a Unitarian church for a few years and I enjoyed it the most because it is so open and flexible. I believe that there's a possibility of a higher power, but don't have the proof I need to actually believe it.

I am religious.  I was raised Roman Catholic.  I go to church every weekend and I pray multiple times a day.  I'm not a religious freak who walks around preaching all day or pushing my beliefs on others, but my beliefs are a strong part of who I am.  I don't follow and agree with everything the Church teaches though.  People don't realize how religious I am and are surprised when I talk about it.

H's family is Jewish and it's been fun teaching his mom about Catholic beliefs and teachings as things come up.  Our children will be baptized since we were married in the Church.  You agree to raise children in the Church when you agree to get married in the Church.  H and his parents are fine with it since they aren't religious.  His grandparents are religious, so I'm not sure how they'll feel, although they were very happy we got married in the Church.

Yeah when people learn how religious I am they're always like "Oh...But you're so normal!" I think a few zealots give everyone a bad name...we're not all crazy people!

  • I am not a religious person at all. I am very interested in the Catholic religion though. DH was raised catholic and would like to raise our kids in the Catholic religion too which I am fine with. We have even talked about going to church. I might even convert since I was raised baptist.
