I think we may have found a daycare!!

I think I found a daycare for Bear!! such a huge weight would be lifted! we have a friend that brings her son to this lady's house. she has an opening for an infant, cloth diapers her kids so she's fine with doing that for us and wishes everyone would, has outside animal care time every day with the kids. she has chickens and dogs and brings her animals to my MIL's vet clinic. they go on 1-2 walks every day depending on the weather, and she said most of the kids leave there for kindergarten reading and writing. obv. Bear will go there as an infant so he's not going to be feeding chickens but he'll be getting outside. my friend loves it there and her son is thriving. and the best part its only $40 a day and 5 min down the road from our house. my SIL pays 1300 a month for her infant and 1200 for her 2 year old and that was out of the question for us, doable if we had to, but I don't want to. so what questions do you ask someone when you go to interview them to watch your child?

Re: I think we may have found a daycare!!

  • why can't I get spaces in my posts lately? urg
  • That is amazing! I'm so happy for you!
  • Some of the questions I would ask:

    1. Are you certified/licensed/registered?
    2. How many children do they have at one time and their ages?
    3. Policy regarding sick kids
    4. How do they discipline?
    5. Security/emergency procedures
    6. Do they drive the children anywhere!
    7. What is a typical day?
    8. Do they allow television watching?
    9. Do they provide meals or snacks?
    10. Do they smoke or have pets?
    11. Do you have to pay for days your child is sick or absent?
    12. What holidays are they closed?
    13. What supplies must you provide?
    14. References you can call
    15. Any policies in writing

Obviously some of these don't apply to a newborn but it's good to know up front.

  • Oh, do they have assistants or will anyone else at all ever be watching your child.

And also maybe some "what would you do" type questions (my child won't stop crying, my child bites another child, I have to work late last minute, etc.)

  • thanks @looneylife those are some great questions
  • where will your baby be napping?
do you need to provide bedding? or a pack n play?
do you have to make the bottles or can you just send in powdered formula? and empty bottles?
what is the cleaning schedule like? how are things sanitized?
do they have swings, jumpers or bouncy chairs for baby to hang out in? is there a space for baby to play safely on a play mat where older children will not be crawling over them or hurting them?
do they give you any kind of feedback at the end of the day as to how the baby's day was? I work in an infant room in a daycare, and we have a communication sheet we use where the parents fill in information regarding when the child ate last and how much, when the last diaper change was and how they slept. We change the babies every 2 hours or sooner if needed, and we write down whether it was wet, dry or poop. We also write down when they eat and how much (1 jar of food, or 3 oz bottle etc). we also write down the time when they fall asleep and wake up.
