Here's a breakdown I sent to one of the girls a few weeks ago.
1. Exercise for 30 minutes, 5 days a week.
2. Limit your amount of sugar intake to a very minimal amount. - I use what My Fitness Pal recommends as my sugar intake for the day, which is 66 grams per day. It then helped me cut out a lot of higher calorie items.
3. Limit dairy. Almond, soy, or coconut milk instead of regular, no yogurt, minimal cheese. (Hormone free meat and dairy is okay.) The point to this is that your hormones are already out of whack. So adding more to your system can affect them even more.
4. No alcohol (your body isn't able to process it due to the imbalance). - The Dr said to treat it like you are already pregnant and can't have any at all.
5. No soda or caffeine. - He said only 2 - 6oz cups per day if you really had to, and not in soda form.
6. No processed carbs (white bread, potatoes, chips, cookies). - He recommended treating it like a gluten free diet, or only having 100% whole grain (not necessarily whole wheat).
7. Eat a high protein diet. - The protein helps minimize rises in insulin.
8. Limit carbs along with the sugar. - Helps with the insulin resistance. So AKA, treat it like a diabetic's/Gluten Free diet. I shop in the gluten free / whole foods section at the store, and stick with high amounts of vegetables and lean proteins that came from no-hormone fed animals.

*** When I asked my Dr about the PCOS diet after being diagnosed with it, he told me that it would be a waste of my time because I wasn't overweight. Yeah, don't tell me not to do something, because I'll just do it. That cycle I O'd on CD72, and was my first cycle in almost a year that didn't get ended with Provera. I started the diet again on January 1st, took Provera to end yet another long cycle, and now O'd on CD40.
It may or may not work for some. But the way I see it, it's worth an honest try. Trust me, it isn't easy saying no to cake on your own birthday, or people suspecting you're pregnant because you used to be a total wino and are now turning down wine. But I feel amazing and feel so hormonally balanced (if that makes sense).
