it's P-day...

Today is the day my period usually comes...and since we are TTC I've been waiting not so patiently for this day to see if I may be pregnant.  I know it's a long shot, considering we've only been trying for a month but I'm still hopeful.  So I will be waiting all day to see what happens!

  • Well, nothing happened, so I took a pregnancy test and it said I'm not pregnant.  I'll admit I'ma bit disappointed and slightly confused.  Maybe my cycle is off since my hormones are still adjusting to being off BCP...?

  • Sorry you tested negative but remember your cycles can fluctuate. Especially if you are just getting off bcp. A 28 day cycle is because the pills trick your body, so don't use that as your baseline for what's normal for you. I know you aren't going to temp, but the newbie blog on the TTC forum is really good to read just to know more about your cycle. You can ovulate later any cycle. My last cycle was just 36 days, but I knew I wasn't really late because I knew when I O'd. Good luck and just wait it out!!

  • You're not technically out of the game until AF shows :)  Some people get late bfp's.  It's hard to know where you are in your cycle without charting, so if you get really frustrated you might start doing that.  It could be your body adjusting to going off of birth control, or it could be stress, or a million other things.  Long story short: lots of things can affect when you ovulate, so that can vary, but your luteal phase (the time after you ovulate and before you start your next period) should remain pretty consistent.  Keep us posted!! :)

  • I agree with what has already been said.  Also, test with first morning urine.  It is more concentrated with pregnancy hormones early on if you are pregnant.
  • How long should I wait before testing again? My cycle usually lasts from the 6th-14th of each month, so obviously if I get my period between now and then...I won't test. But if I don;t get anything by the 14th should I test?

You mean your period usually lasts from the 6th-14th? First let me say I'm soooo sorry because that sounds terrible!

But generally the bump forums recommend to test once a week until you get a bfp, your period, or if you hit, I believe, 90 days and then your dr can kick start it. But I also understand the initial TTC excitement, so only you can decide how often to test. I only let myself test once a cycle, because it sucks seeing white tests! :(. But I know when I will start so I'm only anxious for a day or two. If you end up testing a lot, go to the dollar store to save $, and I've heard on the forums that Walmart sells an 88 cent one too.

Good luck and just remember that your body off bcp can be anything but regular. I've been trying and off for 9 months and have never had the same cycle length, being anywhere from 26-36 days, and my periods were regularly 2 full/3 days long, then all of a sudden the last two months I've had very light 1 day periods....which is why I repeat my first sentiment! ;)

  • Yeah, it usually lasts a full week, but the first day and the last few are pretty light!

Thanks for the advice.  I'll keep everyone posted!  Apart from my husband, you guys will all be the first to know!
