WIJFLT: Code Name Verity (SPOILERS)
I finished the audiobook last night. I LOVED the way that everything came together! It made me want to go back to re-listen to part 1 because I have a whole different opinion of Julie and of Engel now that I know what was really going on. What a smart, well put together story!
Also, was it clear in the scene where it happened that Maddie was the one that shot Julie? I thought that was what happened as I was listening, but then I just couldn't wrap my mind around her actually shooting Julie, and so I just assumed I misheard or misinterpreted something and that the guard shot Julie. But then Maddie confessed to Jamie. Gah. And obviously (at least in my head) Maddie and Jamie are going to live happily ever after, yes? There has to be some kind of silver lining to the story other than the mere fact that Julie's mission was accomplished at the end anyway, right?
I had no idea that Queenie was Julie/Verity until von Linden pointed it out to Engel like she was some kind of dummy, and then I felt like I must be the same kind of dummy for not picking up on it myself. Please tell me I'm not the only one.

Julie was so impressive. To be able to think on her feet like that was so amazing. To write her confession and to have never spilled any secrets at all was perfection.
I also loved hearing the other side of the interview that was going on that I didn't even realize. I got the parts that they made obvious, but to hear how she gave the layout of the buildings who was where and how she was really doing was superb.
It's books like this that I have to remind myself that it is actually fiction. It's steeped in historical fact, but it isn't truth. It definitely makes me want to read more about the female pilots and that time period in England/France.

@SnShne322, I also want to read more about female WW2 pilots now. Another good female MC book about the same time frame was Jackdaws by Ken Follett. This reminded me of that a little bit. An all female team of Allied spies in occupied France. . . It was really good.

OH MAN I love this book so much. I'm wrapping it up with my 8th grade honors students today and I can't wait to talk about the end. The ones who are actually reading/paying attention are loving it!
Maddie killing Julie just gutted me. I kept turning the pages waiting for it to be another trick somehow, but it wasn't. OOOF. Right in the feels.
I asked my kids about their feelings on Maddie/Jamie and I got responses like:
TEAM JADDIE!!
HE GAVE HER HIS BOOOOOOOTS!
I SHIP IT!
LOL
And I knew that Queenie was Verity from a review I read, so that wasn't a surprise for me, which bums me out.
