Healthy Recipes?

As I mentioned, DH and I are doing the Body By Vi shakes for breakfast and lunch.

Anyone have any super healthy dinner recipes to share?

Re: Healthy Recipes?

  • I use prevention rd and skinnytaste blogs for a lot of my recipes. I'm not always the best at actually using them though.

When I'm trying to eat especially healthy, I eat grilled meat/fish and veggies only.  I find cutting starches out of dinner makes a difference for me. So no potato, bread, rice in the evening.  Chilis are also a good option especially if you load them with veggies and I always add chick peas which are delicious in chili.  I also have a few cookbooks from Tosca Reno - the Eat Clean queen - and you can get some recipes online.  She only makes healthy things so you can't lose, although they aren't all winners because they can be bland.  I would suggest adding lots of spices and seasoning to taste.

Other good options are quinoa salad with veggies, chicken veggies wraps (no cheese, or mayo - mustard only), and taco salad (ground beef cooked with taco seasoning and sauteed with onions and peppers, thrown on a salad with fresh tomatos, cilantro and you can add a dollop of greek yogurt to replace sour cream.  It is more fun with cheese, but you can skip it to keep it healthier.

Good luck with your plan!  How was the weekend as far as the 'elimination' factor going?

  • I really think if you just cook better. Like minus the butter, use olive oil in its place. I will make chicken breast with a lot of veggies. I use the little bit of oil from the pan I cooked the chicken into cook the veggies with some seasoning. You have your own sauce. Just try different spices and you can make a ton of things with that. If I ever want to make it a little creamy, I will actually add a little of milk, I use 1%, and it works. When making tacos, you can make your own seasoning to minimize the salt. Oh, and if you do make pasta, try to use angel hair. It is a lot lighter and you don't need too much. Load it up with vegetables and a light sauce and you have your meal. :)

  • I get most of my meals from Oh She Glows and Happy Herbivore. I don't think I've made a single bad tasting thing from either of those and they're quite healthy for the most part (vegan and mostly low/no fat) I linked a few in this post

  • When I first started trying to lose weight I was all about trying to find the most healthy meals out there on blogs and in cookbooks but like a PP said, for me now it is more about just cooking better.  I don't add butter, salt, cheese, etc. to things that I used to add it to.  I measure out my portions, if it says 1/4 cup then that's all I allow myself.  Ground beef got switched to ground turkey, delicious bacon got switched to turkey bacon, etc.

For me it isn't about what I cook but how I cook it.
