QOTD 3/11

So DH and I always have the Today Show on while we are getting ready in the morning. Today there was a woman on who said that women in college who know that they want to have a family should spend 75% of their time looking for a partner and the other 25% on their studies. She said that you can always work on your career later in life but once you hit your mid thirties your pool of potential partners has dwindled and you there isn't much time to start a family. She also said this ONLY applies to women and not men.

How do you feel about what she said?

Re: QOTD 3/11

  • I think if you just live your life and be the best version of yourself while in pursuit of your dreams, you will find a partner.

BUT, a good friend from law school met her husband on eharmony, so I guess there is something to be said for actively looking as well.

I also have to disagree with putting a timeline on yourself.  None of us can predict the future, I mean look at all the people who get married later in life or get married for a second time or have babies into their late 30s.  I always thought I'd be married by 22 and have a few kids by the age I am now.  I turn 28 in May and we're in no rush.  Life isn't like a day planner where you can jot in "2 pm, find soulmate."

  • This is a topic that I'm just going to say, "Don't even get me started."
  • that school of thought seems really old fashioned!  I was actively avoiding relationships when I met my husband in college...so that kind of goes against what the TV woman said.

And the dating pool isn't necessarily better when you're in your 20s!!  A lot of guys at that age aren't really doing much or aren't looking for a long term relationship so I think marriage is more likely for people who may be in their 30s.

  • I forgot to add my main point, which was that this lady is off her rocker.

  • It took all I had not to say that I wanted to punch that woman in her face in the original post. I tried to be as unbiased as I could.

  • Wow, just wow. What a dated school of thought. Let's just go back to not working, or voting for that matter! It's really a shame that a woman doesn't see the value in bettering herself and being independent. I think it makes for a better relationship when one does find a husband because she has value and a voice. I can't believe that in 2014 Today would broadcast something so sexist.

  • Oh and I just want to point out that she is a mother of 2 and both children went to Princeton.

Did I mention that both those children are male?

  • Sat and read this aloud to a coworker while at work. We just shook our heads.
All it reminded us of is a girl we work with who we're pretty sure would quit tomorrow and become a permanent homemaker if her man was to finally pop the question.

  • umm, wow. That's just crazy. You never know what life's going to throw your way, so you have to take care of you. I happened to get lucky and meet H in college when we were 18, but I wasn't looking. School was important, as it should be!!

  • I read about her in the newspaper a few months ago.  She needs to go back to her kitchen in the 1940s.
  • I was just thinking about having her as a MIL...I think that I would be in jail.
