2 year old Gymnastics?

Any recommendations for some affordable gymnastics class/activities for a 2 year old?

G is really active and loves to jump and tries to do somersaults so I think he'd really enjoy gymnastics.

I called The Little Gym of McMurray and I'm experiencing a bit of sticker shock.  It's $760 a year. Is that a typical price?

The Sarah Heinz House program, which is very affordable, is full and doesn't start a new session until October.

Re: 2 year old Gymnastics?

  • I should add I live in the city south area (Dormont, Beechview, Brookline) so I'm convenient to a lot of places. I don't care if I have to drive a bit. Evening and weekend classes are a must, though.

  • DD goes to Gymkhana and really enjoys. They have a couple different locations within the city. We pay $140 per 12 week session and once a year there is some $25 fee or something. It did seem expensive at first but found with this sometimes you get what you pay for. We tried a few 6 week classes through our local rec association and she didn't get too much out of. http://gymkhanafun.com/

we didn't have to pay per year just per session. Summer has shorter sessions too around 6 weeks or something. :)

  • Thanks, I'll check it out!

Ditto - we've been to a few and found gymkhana is the one the girls liked the most.  They were not going to be competitive gymnasts so this let them learn & low key.

  • Madeline did 4 sessions at Gymkhana in Point Breeze.  We LOVED our teacher Jamie!  So sad to leave.  the sessions were much more affordable.  There is usually a coupon for first timers in the free Pittsburgh Parent magazine you can pick up at the grocery store.

  • When DD was younger we went to All Star Athletics in Robinson.  It's an actual gymnastics gym, but they did offer classes for the younger crowd. They do tumbling, balance beam, trampoline, bars and vault (sort of...mostly they just climb up there do a handstand with help and jump off into a foam pit.)

I think until age 3 it's "My Grown Up and Me Classes.

DD liked it and I didn't think the prices were bad (cheaper than the dance classes we're doing now!)

  • Have you tried Gymsport in bridgeville? They have quite a few toddler classes on the weekend.
  • I called Gymsport and have a friend who took her children there and she was very happy. They advised me to wait for their summer schedule which should be out at the end of this month.

  • Ditto Gymkhana. My youngest was 2.5 and she went to their summer sessions last summer. She's now signed up for 3&4 year old classes for the spring. She loves it and it's very little kid friendly.

  • WE did Gymkhana last year for both boys. We switched to Sarah Heinz this year since we were doing swimming there anyway.

I liked Gymkhana's program better, as they had more equipment for the kids to use and spent more time on it. Sarah Heinz's program is more tumbling for the 2s (J does half tumbling/half beam). You can't beat the price though.
