WIJFR: This Song Will Save Your Life (spoilers)
Okay, I really liked this book until the very end when Elise destroyed her sisters poetry castle and her mom and step-dad kicked her out of their house and said they didn't want her around their children. That was so weird to me and it was never addressed. The step-dad didn't apologize and Elise was all happy when they said she could come back home. Was that weird to anyone else?
Also, I really wish Elise had played her dad's song when he was there listening to her DJ.

YES. I didn't like how the whole thing was centered around her relationship with her mom and her sister even though the step-dad was the one who made the decision. I also didn't like how her mom didn't stand up for her. No, what she did wasn't okay, but the family dynamic fell apart and was never really addressed. Elise thought that she was her step-dad's daughter too, and it broke my heart that he was able to cast her out.
No matter how angry you get at your kids, maybe you both need a time out, in extreme cases a day of space (parent goes to work, kid goes to school/dad's/grandma's), but you don't shun them. Ever.
