help! touchy fb situation

I have a friend on fb who became vegan over the past year, all the power to her! My issue is that she makes multiple posts daily with graphic images and upsetting messages trying to encourage others to stop consuming animal products. I understand that she wants to get the message out there but it is unnecessary to be so forseful about it!

I have so many food allergies, mostly to fruit and veg, that I couldn't become vegan or vegetarian even if I wanted to!

I would easily unfriend her...except she is my dads girlfriends daughter. Basically a step sister, so its not that simple. Is there any way I can block her posts without unfriending her?

Re: help! touchy fb situation

  • Yes, unfollow her so her posts don't pop up on your new feed. I do it all the time, mostly people who post about animal cruelty (dog abuse). While I know it's out there, I don't wanna see it.

  • You can definitely hide her posts so they are not visible in your news feed. If you need to know how let me know!
  • When images really offend me, I report them to fb (oooh that should be a confession for thursday!) but that's probably extreme for your situation.  ;)

  • Agreeing with prior posts. Hiding them may be easier than actually deleting the person--especially with the family situation. I did that before with a girl I went to college with. She was very sweet and I couldn't justify removing her from my friends list (she was a few grades younger than me and I could sympathize with wanting friends in college who were older as a freshman); but, she was one of those types who would have a post about EVERYTHING she did. I figured that would be the easiest route.

Although I have to admit--I've probably used the report button for tamer things

  • Right?  Sometimes it's the 50th post about Monsanto and I lose all patience and self-control and click Report.  Well!

  • I never to report posts! I have a Monsanto hater friend too....

  • I blocked my cousins wife because all she did was bitch about being pregnant. I know I complain to you guys and my mom... But I would never put that on Fb! I remembered I did it a few months ago when I realized I never see her pictures... But she's pregnant again so I kept her blocked from my newsfeed.

  • I think I have about 1/3 of my FB friends hidden. I have a few who post pictures of half naked women every day or who post only political memes and articles, those people get blocked ASAP.

  • It doesn't even have to be people I disagree with necessarily, the only requirement is that they be obnoxious, consistently cynical, or some combination of the two.

  • Thanks ladies. Ive hidden her posts. It sucks that I won't see her family posts in my news feed anymore but I can't bare to see anymore tortured animals!
