I Had To Steal This GTKY From Nest Book Club

Because I love it. I don't even post on there but I love lurking for book recs and I saw this and loved the question.

If you were headed off to another planet because Earth was no longer able to sustain life, and you could only bring 5 books with you, which books would you choose? (This is non negotiable. You must go, and you can only bring 5.)

Cheering on all of my 3T ladies!  DX with PCOS - 11/2012 DH S/A & HSG - Normal - Too many rounds of Clomid = BFNs - New RE 5/2014 - Repeat Testing - Losing 40lbs before injects/IUI

  • So hard... I think instead of bringing my five favorite books, I would just bring five I haven't read before, but want to read. So these are on my list:

    1) The man who mistook his wife for a hat, 2) brave new world, 3) cocktail hour under the tree of forgetfulness, 4) the curious incident of the dog in the night-time, 5) playing with fire.

If these books suck, then I would be screwed, but I guess the loss of my home planet would but things in perspective.

Well, it has to be either Calvin and Hobbes, Get Fuzzy, or the Far Side. One of those would absolutely HAVE to go with me! Preferably all three

I loved this book, but I'm always hesitant to recommend it.  I really want to recommend it to my book club, but the theme is tough and I don't know who has been through something like it.

I found I had really good conversations of the "what would you have done" variety with my girlfriends about it afterwards. They are all Moms, so it was interesting.

I always recommend this book but always give the warning of the theme. I had my Book Club read it when it was my month to pick and we had a great convo, too. I found that the opinions definitely differed between mothers vs. non mothers.

  • This was so hard! I've been thinking about this thread since you posted it, @amandaf6383. Curses!

    1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by JK Rowling (unless there is a collection of all 7 I can take - then I choose that)
    2. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
    3. Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
    4. The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
    5. And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie (this is my second-favorite book to teach; Night would be the icing on the cake of this sad list)
