WIAR: The Wolf of Wall Street (NS)

Did anyone else read this?  What did you think of it, honestly?

The movie looked like it was going to be really good, and though I never did see the movie, DH bought me the book for Christmas, and I just got around to starting it yesterday.

I'm a little over 50 pages in and while I'm entertained, I'm not sure I can handle another 450 pages of this guy.  He's so disgustingly self-important, and just such an asshole.  I regret that DH paid money for this book, and I feel like I should read it because of that, but part of me wants to mail it back to Jordan Belfort with a letter explaining what a douche I think he is.  But maybe the tone changes?  Maybe he really gets screwed in the end and it's all worth it?  And why are there so many exclamation points?!

  • I haven't read it or seen the movie but it is on my Tbr list. I have heard others say exactly what you're saying about this book though.
  • I haven't read it but I saw the movie. The movie was really good but you've nailed his personality. I can't say much else without spoilers but his attitude definitely doesn't change.

  • I've read the book and seen the movie.  I actually really liked the book and the movie.  I was kind of entertained by the fact that this guy was such a self absorbed douche.  I don't know what to say without giving anything away.  During the whole book I just kind of felt like how can this guy be so smart and so stupid at the same time?  The story just gets wilder.  While I was reading it I just kept thinking I can't believe this really happened. in real life. for real.

  • I'm still going.
I picked up a library book the other day that's sitting on my shelf tempting me now, though.  If I put down the Wolf, I don't think I'll ever pick it up, though.

It IS entertaining, which is what's killing me.  It's a little like that Beer in Hell book in that way, I guess.  I hated that guy too, but the book was entertaining.  But I also regretted that my husband had paid money for it.

My thoughts exactly.  Although I haven't seen the movie yet.

I enjoyed the story.  I mean, I disliked the MC, obviously, that's really the point.  It was a really wild ride though and I was totally engrossed in the story and the fact that it really happened.  It was just insane to me.

I wouldn't say it's the best writing, and I don't really want to comment on the storyline so as not to give spoilers, but it was entertaining to me in a bad kind of way.  If that even makes sense.  ;)
