NBR: Wizzarding World of HP

I'm taking the kids to Orlando next week for spring break, and I want to visit the Wizzarding World. I've looked online, but it's hard to tell how big it is, or whether it's a separate park from Universal Orlando. Those who have been, can you shed any light? Will I have to buy two tickets: one for Universal and another for WWoHP? Is the WW large enough that it will take us more than a day to experience it?

Thanks in advance for your advice! I can't wait!!!!

  • It's part of Islands of Adventure.  You won't need a separate ticket.  Once you buy an entry ticket and pass the gates, you get to choose whether you want to go to Universal OR Islands.

There are two parks within Universal Orlando - Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida.

It appears Hogsmeade is within Islands of Adventure but the new Diagon Alley is within Universal Studios Florida.  So if you want to go to both, you'll have to buy the park-to-park tickets for both parks :(

  • Thanks, ladies. That's so helpful! (The Universal site says Diagon Alley won't open until summer '14, so that won't be an option for us anyway.)

  • New question: is it common for people to dress up? Or should I leave the kids' costumes at home? I don't want to get stuck lugging around robes and hats. :)

Oh for some reason I thought Diagon Alley was already open!  I keep seeing commercials for it all the time on TV.

Very few people dressed up when I went a few years ago. That said, I wouldn't hesitate to let your HP freak flag fly :)

  • I don't remember people dressing up when I was there but that was 3.5 years ago.

After 9/11, they became really strict regarding costumes so I don't think they're allowed.

  • You do not need to dress up.  No one was dressed up when I was there, though lots of people were rocking HP themed tee shirts.

You can do the Wizarding World in one day, no problem.

Buy your tickets for Islands of Adventure online before you get to the park if at all possible.  The line for tickets in the morning at the park entrance was RIDICULOUS and SLOW and basically the most annoying line ever on the planet.  They try to upsell you so hard.

I'm super jealous.  It is so much fun!  The Hogwarts ride is the best ride I've ever experienced.

  • Thanks, Kate! I'll try to buy and print tickets from home before I leave. Good call!

  • They also have that Fast pass thing, similar to Disney.  The one that gives you the wait times for rides so you can plan.
