GTKY: Cooking

How old were you when you learned how to cook?

Re: GTKY: Cooking

  • I think I was around 10 or 11 when I started making breakfast for my parents on the weekends. I was around 13 when I started making easy dinners to surprise everyone. I was a little older before I started going all out and making really delicious meals.

  • I was probably about 8 or 9 when I started doing things on my own. Starting supper, making lunches for myself. I always liked to help in the kitchen. By the time I was 12 I was making suppers.

  • I was making dinner by myself at 12, so sometime before that.

  • I don't know.  Some of my earliest memories are in the kitchen with my grandmother.  I was able to do simple things like grilled cheese (with supervision) by 1 or 2 grade standing on her stepstool.  My father died when I was 9 and I used to get dinner started for my mom, she'd prep stuff and I'd get things going after school and she's get home about 45 min later and take over.

  • I was like 8. I was/am a picky eater so my mom refused to make 2 completely seperate meals. I at least could make eggs and toast, frozen pizzas, pancakes, almost anything I could use the toaster oven for.
  • I don't remember.  I know I have been able to cook mac and cheese for quite a long time though.
