Re: QOTD 3/25

  • My worst isn't very bad but it was the least enjoyable for me.  A new St. Louis Bar and Grill opened up and my husband had gone there for lunch with a coworker.  He liked the food so we went there again for dinner and I was really unimpressed with everything...it was a small and overcrowded restaurant, we had to sit by the door at a small table, the food portions were small but overpriced, the music was too loud and the waitresses were dressed very provocatively.  The only tolerable part was that our scantily clad waitress had the good sense to mostly talk to and look at me instead of mu husband.

  • My worst was actually my funniest.  The waitress was clearly high, first of all.  It was at an Old Chicago's Pizza in Okemos, MI.  First, with our appetizer, she kept bringing us stack after stack of mini plates...there were 3 of us!  She kept walking by and staring but forgetting to take our order.  Finally, we ordered and got our pizza.  When we asked for a box she walked off with our pizza, all seemed to be fine.  Then she threw our leftover pizza away, but the way she told us was by walking back to our table empty-handed mumbling "You guys are gonna be sooo mad at me..."

She then offered us free dessert to make up for it, which we did enjoy.  We weren't even mad, it was so entertaining.

  • Oh man, I've had too many!  The worst experience is from when I worked in a restaurant as a hostess.  I was 16 and working at this local Mexican place.  It was kind of slow and I was keeping myself busy by cleaning the menus and whatnot, when this older man, in his mid to late 40's, comes up and says, "All of us at our table have been debating this all night and are just dying to know.  Are those real?" and looked down at my chest.  I was in so much shock that I just looked at him for a few seconds before saying "I'm 16!  What do you think!"  He quickly went back to his table and I immediately went to tell my boss, which was the owners daughter.  I was very happy when she told them to pay their bill and leave the restaurant.  I was so mortified and embarrassed.

  • My family went to this Olive Garden once and ended up waiting over an hour for a table. Once we finally got seated, it took forever for the server to show up and take our order, and my sister had to order three times because everything she tried to order, they were out of! The whole thing was such a train wreck that our meal ended up being free, but I haven't been to an Olive Garden since.

  • I had a TGI Friday's charge $2,000 on my check card once.  I don't keep much in my checking because I try to put it into my savings so I can't spend it.  It took 3 days to clear it up because TGI Friday's couldn't get their act together and send the paperwork to prove it was an accidental charge.  It was a nightmare!
  • We went to a local chain pub. We sat down and the waitress wanted us to order... We got drinks but you could tell she wanted our whole order. Then, out friends came in, we talked and they got a different table. We asked the waitress for more time when our drinks came since H didn't even look yet (I always get the same thing - Chicken Chesapeake wrap mmmmmm). She didn't come back for 15 mins. Our friends had their food already! They left before put food came out. She was at the bar area flirting with the bartender. We never got refills, and I don't even think she brought us the food. We really should have gotten a manager... But H grabbed the card from me and left $0 tip. I felt so bad leaving no tip.

Recently we went to IHOP and no one got our drinks or anything for 15 mins. Which is bad enough but when your fighting morning sickness it's forever. I finally told the hostess. 5 servers were constantly walking by us no even asking is we've been seen (menus on the table, no sign of drinks). We saw one waitress tell another we were her table... And she's like what! I already have 4 tables! I almost walked out. Really?! Sorry to inconvenience you.

  • We went to a nice sit down Chinese place a few years ago. We had both been there before and really liked it. The waiter seemed kind of new so we gave him some slack when dinner came out before our appetizer. But then I realized that my dinner wasn't what I order and it was super spicy. I told the waiter and he sent it back so I could get what I ordered. When that came out I ate a few of the vegetables on the dish and then went to eat a piece of chicken. I tried to spear it with my fork but it was really squishy. I then cut into it and it was completely RAW!! So gross. The owner was sitting at the bar getting drunk next to us so I tapped him on the shoulder to tell him what was going on. He explained that the chef was new since the last one quit. I told him that I could accept that answer about the wrong dish but could not accept it for raw chicken. After a little persuasion we got the entire meal comped and went to McDonald's on the way home.

  • When H and I were in Las Vegas last summer, we went to this place in our hotel because we had a coupon.  We were 1 of 2 tables and our server was awful.  We barely came around and didn't even bring out our food.  She never came to check on us either.  We told her about our coupon and she said she would take it before she brought us the check.  She didn't.  When she dropped the check off, without us asking, we asked about the coupon and she was like, "Oh, don't worry about it."  We did worry about it by deducting the cost of the coupon from the check.

We're normally 20% tippers, but she did not deserve that.  When H deducted the coupon and added the tip, it was like a dollar less than the check amount that the girl left us.  I'm not a big couponer or anything, but I was just so mad at the situation that I didn't care.  The food wasn't even good.  H and I barely ate any of it.
  • @mana8503, our IHOP here is AWFUL!! It used to be good, but they rebuilt it across the street two years ago and it went downhill. We've been one of only 5 full tables in the restaurant with 3 servers walking around, and it took 15 minutes for them to come and even take a drink order! They also brought H an omelette with salsa instead of sausage...

One of my worst experiences came at a restaurant we went to in Gatlinburg. We went with another married couple and were looking forward to just relaxing and eating. None of us had ever been there before. We sat outside on the patio. It took 20 minutes for them to come and take our drink order, which by then we knew what we wanted to eat, but our waitress was determined to get our drinks first. 15 minutes later, we got our drinks. The people who were seated a while after us had already gotten their dinner (they had a different server).
The friends that we were with are vegetarians. They asked if the red beans & rice had sausage in it. The waitress said "Oh no, I don't think so!" so they ordered that for one of their sides. Once our food came, she brought out their plate with fries saying "The red beans & rice did have sausage, so I figured you'd want fries." Um, how about coming back and asking which one of the 10 other sides they would prefer instead of deciding for them?! Luckily, the food was good and it was 100% on our server.
