Insurance Question

Car Insurance.  What is your deductible for comprehensive & collison?  Right now, we have a $500 deductible.  DH told me we should increase that to a $1000 deductible.  It would save us just over $100 a year I believe.  I'm torn on what to do....I feel a $1000 deductible is pretty high...

    I think we have a $500 deductible.

I feel like switching to a $1000 deductible would jinx me.  My moms friend had heard those Allstate commercials saying, "we pay you every year you don't have an accident."  She changed her insurance because she hadn't been in an accident in years, and literally the next day she was in one.

I'm not sure I would change it for $100/year savings.  That's just me though, I'm pretty conservative.

  • That's my thought too!  I'm thinking I'll just not mention anything about it.  I do all the bills and such...so unless he brings it up again...

  • I don't think I'd switch either. You break even if you go five years without an accident... and there are a lot of really terrible drivers out there that you just can't plan for!

  • If you are happy with your provider and the plan you have there is no reason to switch.
  • $500 for us, although that's the highest deductible offered here. $1,000 seems like a lot considering how common accidents can be, especially with so many factors beyond your control.
  • Thanks - that's what I was thinking as well! :-)
