Cruel but amazing teacher tactic (GoT related) (Minorly spoilery but not really)

I say minorly spoilery because I feel like it's pretty common knowledge that there are a bajillion character deaths but you never know. This article doesn't name any of them, though, and no plot spoilers.

Teachers, take notes here. This is how you can effectively get your class full of little monsters to shut the hell up. Sure, you could try threats of detention. You can vow to never let them watch a movie in class ever again. Or, if you're really bold, you can force them to use only encyclopedias when writing research papers for the rest of the year. Better fire up that Encarta CD-ROM!

But a math teacher in Belgium used a very cruel but necessary tactic in order to quiet an unruly class, and we love it. We're talking about TV spoilers.

According to the Belgian newspaper nieuwsblad.be, after failed attempts to settle the classroom, the teacher asked how many of his students watched HBO's Game of Thrones. When a majority of the kids raised their hands, he reportedly dropped this bomb on them:

"Well, I've read all the books. If there is too much noise, I will write the names of the dead on the board."

That's right. This international hero threatened to reveal everyone who will die in the upcoming fourth season (and beyond) of the fantasy series.

"[The names of the dead] are enough to fill the whole year and I can even describe how they die," he added chillingly.

Well because kids are punks, they tried to call his bluff and the classroom continued to make noise. But this dude was not bluffing, and he immediately began writing names down on the board. That shut the students up very quickly.

We can't find what grade the students are in anywhere on the Internet-sphere, but we can only assume they are late middle school or high school. This story would be quite dark if this was a second-grade class. Why are they watching Game of Thrones at that age?! There's fornication and blood and King Joffrey! Not suitable for young ones.

Since the Game of Thrones series still has the second half of book three plus four more books that may or may not be split up on the show as well, this teacher has a long list of spoiler arsenal at his disposal if he wants to continue using this tactic. And we wholeheartedly encourage it.

Or he can make the kids actually read the books so they won't have to deal with the threat of spoilers. Reading is fundamental, y'all!

Game of Thrones and Jon Snow's pouty lips are returning to your small screen on April 6.

  • Oh my gosh, this is BRILLIANT!!!! I wish there was a series of books or movies that all my middle schoolers read or watched that I could use to threaten this.  Much as I hate spoilers, the kids were warned and I bet it was extremely effective!

There's supposed to be 2 more, there's 5 out now and it's supposed to go up to 7.  Some people say that there's no way he can wrap it all up in the next 2 books and that there will need to be more, I just don't think we'll ever actually have an end to the books  :((
