this sounds terrible...

So a friend of mine from college is engaged (YAY!!). I was just talking to a mutual friend who informed me that the bride-to-be would like us to do a Tough Mudder for her bachelorette party. I'm sorry but, HELL NO!!! That's great that it's her thing, but not mine, not at all. If you don't want to drink that's fine, there are a million other things we can do! Running and doing obstacles in the mud are not for me.

Re: this sounds terrible...

  • Friend or no, you are well within your right to say no. I might be game for a color run 5K but the Tough Mudders can be dangerous! :)

  • Tough Mudders are just cruel! How do the other ladies feel about it? You said you heard from a mutual friend so just curious. I don't care how close of a friend she is or even if she was family I would tell her Hell No as well. I could see her wanting to do something similar (Color Run) as an addition to something else BUT not instead of or as the party.
  • I get that she wants to do something "different" for her party but in all honesty, how many people are actually in shape enough to compete in one of those?! Oh gosh, I hope that didn't sound really rude!! I know, for myself, I am in no shape to even attempt something like that. Not to mention you have to pay for entry which *ahem* is $139 in Michigan!! Plus, you'd probably be expected to cover the brides portion, NO, NO NO! Is this girl recently engaged? I'm guessing she's throwing around ideas because it's all new and exciting and she wants to be "Different Bride". Politely decline if it actually comes around and agree to meet up with the ladies afterwards for an activity that doesn't involve mud.

Oh, and for those that haven't looked in to a Tough Mudder, they electrocute you! Sounds like a bachelorette party I'd love to attend

  • I actually think it could be kind of fun, but I and a lot of my friends are into outdoorsy fitness type activities...BUT that if that was the plan it should only be part of the plan...like here the tough mudder is in whistler (remember 2010 anyone) a resort town about a hour away from the city...so maybe go to a resort for a weekend and that be ONE portion of the weekend and fill the rest of the weekend with activities ladies who are not interested in doing that one part can still have fun and feel like its a worthwhile weekend.....maybe go to a spa to get prettied up AFTER getting all dirty and going out that night to the clubs or whatever....

Otherwise if you are not interested and that's all that is happening, decline and tell the bride why (in a diplomatic way)...if enough people are honest with her about not wanting to she might decide it would be more fun to do something with her ladies then to try and push them into something they don't want to do

"Eletric Eel" Those yellow wires hanging down shock you as you crawl under them.

Does that look like the face of someone who is having a good time? I say no!!

  • @spalko - That is insane! After I read this, I had to go on their website and look at their list of obstacles. People really do this for fun? It sounds like a nightmare to me. Look at this list! http://toughmudder.com/obstacles

  • The mutual friend who heard this was also not excited. Her questions was "can we plan on dying together" I am so not in that sort of shape I wouldn't even try.

The B2B is newly engaged, but I guess this has been her plan for a while now (she does these things). I also don't know when she's getting married or how soon this would be because there are only a few Tough Mudders in our area every year. If this is what she decides to do, then I will definitely be meeting everyone after the mud and electrocution!

So... I just checked out the obstacles page. I think the cage crawl would scare me more than being electrocuted. It looks like you have to crawl in mud/water and there's a small clearance before there's a cage above you. So you're trapped. That would freak me out!

  • Oh Hell no.  First b/c that looks about as fun as getting a pap smear and a root canal at the same time and second b/c I have a cardiac conduction anomaly and my cardiologist would kill me for even thinking of doing.

I have a bachelorette and bridal shower this weekend in Pittsburgh.  We're going to one of those painting and wine places (wine optional) and then for mani/pedis.  Much more my speed.

  • I am loving all your girls responses! I really want to do a mud run, not this thing, one where you just go run in fun mud. Anywho, you can go and just cheer on the crazies who want to do it!

  • And here I was thinking that my cousin wanting to go see 50 Shades of Grey for her Bachlorette party was bad. I guess I can suck that up because at least she isn't wanting us to do this!
  • This whole thing is the stuff my nightmares are made of!!
