Gone Girl (SPOILERS)

So, after a lot of convincing, I decided to give Gone Girl another shot.  The first 90 pages or so were just slow for me.  It probably didn't help that I just didn't have any time to read.  It was like 2-3 pages here and there.  This last weekend we went on a little getaway and I was finally able to sit down and read, and I must admit that I'm now hooked.

A few things:
1. Nick is a douche!  Even if he didn't kill his wife, he is still a sleazeball (sp?).
2. I knew that Nick wasn't the killer.  It was just too easy.
3.  I did not expect Amy to still be alive.  I kind of thought it was Nick's mistress that killed her.
4.  I'm to the part where Nick is talking to the ex-boyfriend (accused of rape) and old friend (stalker) that were both accused of things by Amy.... I really hope that Amy gets caught for this.  She is just as much a sleazeball as Nick is.
5.  Yes, Amy's parents cashed in on the Amazing Amy series, but do they really deserve to suffer like that? Just another reason why Amy has to get caught! They deserve to know their daughter is alive.

I'm hoping to finish today or tomorrow.  Will come back to talk about the rest of it.  I know some people didn't like the end, but I have no idea what to expect.

Re: Gone Girl (SPOILERS)

  • Such a roller coaster ride, isn't it!
    Taya 9.20.05 * Marlena 10.4.07 * Armando 11.3.93
  • I can't wait until you finish.

  • And? Did you finish yet?

My favorite place on earth: The Amargosa Valley.

  • IMO, after you find out she's alive the twists in the book make it hard to put down.

Not yet... I have about 50 pages left.  I'm where Amy is staying with Desi and she is thinking to herself, "He loves me, I have to go back to him."

  • Did you guys see that NPH is playing Desi in the movie!?  NOT what I pictured at all, but makes me want to see the movie a little bit more.
  • I really want to see the movie.  Maybe not enough to get a sitter and go to the theater though.

  • I'm done... finally.  And I'm quite peeved.  Amy is a psycho b*tch!  I really wanted Amy to get what she deserved.  And what is sad, is that there are so many people who are actually like her.  Manipulative, crazy, murderous, etc.
I really wanted Nick to man up and leave her, but I understand Nick wanting to protect himself, and then ultimately his child.
I'm a little confused with the end.  Nick says, "Because every morning you have to wake up and be you."  And then she says, "I really, truly wish he hadn't said that.  I keep thinking about it. I can't stop.  I don't have anything else to add.  I just wanted to make sure I had the last word.  I think I've earned that."  WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

Now I'm ready for the movie!

I read this book about 2 years ago and I still think about the end.

I had thought that GF would do a sequel, but I'm probably wrong.  I love that Nick told her that.  It's his way to say F U to her, IMO.

I took that to mean that she was BSC and going to pull another stunt on him in the future.  It was basically saying that that's the life they will continue to lead for the rest of their lives.  They were always going to have a sick and twisted relationship where she's constantly manipulating him.

And the chances that their child will be BSC are sky high.

  • I wish I could go back and read this book again for the first time! Amy is super crazy but I think Nick is a little off as well so they belong together in my opinion. The end of this book will stay with you for awhile.

  • I love GF.  I love how everything she writes gets a reaction, even if it's the ugly, stabby kind.  Very few authors can write a book full of characters that I completely loathe and yet I get upset about what happens to them.  Because I want them to fall into a vat of acid, and they don't.
