It is a banner day - I just used the Public Library!

I haven't used the library in probably about 3 years.  However, the book that was chosen for our next irl bookclub meeting is something I have absolutely no interest in whatsoever so I didn't want to spend any money on it.  So I finally bit the bullet and figured out how to download the book from the library onto my kindle.  Now it is just a matter of if I will actually read it or not.

But Yay me for not spending money and for supporting the local library.

  • Now I'm curious...

    What's the book?

Dreams of Joy by Lisa See.  It is the third of a 'series' (Snow Flower and the Secret Fan is the first and Shanghai Girls is the second).

I read half of Snow Flower and gave up and never read Shanghai Girls and I guess this book has characters from Shanghai Girls in it.

Why would anyone pick the third book in a series for a book club meeting??????  Especially if not everyone has read the series.  WTF?

  • Yay!  This is a wise financial move.  More money for shoes!

  • This won't stop me from buying hoards of books though.  I don't like time restrictions on having to read things.  I makes me want to do the opposite and not read them.

I liked Snow Flower, but never read the rest.

I was too horrified by the foot binding to go beyond that point.

Although, I will happily confess that I would totally do the foot binding thing if someone told me I had to in order to get a closet full of Louboutins.
