I have been mulling this around in my head for a few days. I have always dreamed about living in Florida or near the ocean, but never thought it would actually happen until I was much older, like retirement age. But now I'm thinking, what's holding us back? We don't have kids, we don't own a home, we can be lawyers anywhere (except taking the extra bar exam would suck)...and my family is thinking of moving down there anyway eventually.
I'm afraid I'd miss things about Indiana (like autumn, for example), but this winter has me re-thinking it. Plus, the allergens suck here.
Would you move out of the state or country? Why or why not? I am curious...
Re: Would You Move?
I think that if the salary was more we would have moved there. It is definitely a hard decision but I think that it is easier to do now than when you have kids.
ETA: I would move to Austin in a heartbeat if there was a great opportunity there. I LOVE it there.
I always wanted to move to where it never snowed. I had big dreams when I was younger, but then got too comfortable. DH and I would like to retire somewhere warm, no one wants to shovel snow in their 60s!
My sister lived in Florida for 5 years. In that time they ended up broke. She and BIL moved back home and doubled both of their incomes doing the same job. Kind of scared me out of moving without a solid plan!
I would say to go for it if you both want to. I would never move without a job, but if you are serious, take the next few months to figure out which area you like and start applying.
I know the Bar is not an easy exam, but you passed once, and now you have experience under your belt, I am sure you could pass another exam. I know a girl who is definitely not the brightest crayon in the box. She passed NY and NJ on her first attempt and took them on consecutive days.
If you're considering moving, take the Bar before quitting any job and moving. You probably couldn't get a job without passing the state's bar exam, right?
I could never move. I am a New Yorker, through and through. H is too, although he says he would leave in a heartbeat. Anywhere I moved, I would take a minimum of a 50% salary cut. I couldn't afford that. I know housing is cheaper elsewhere, but food and other items are the same or more.
So that's when we built our house here. We are close to my parents but I honestly think they would move of we did. My dad is also from NC.
I always say if we win the lottery we would move down.
