SAM's club baby formula

I will need to supplement at least for a few weeks until my milk fully comes in (going by past experience) and I've been reading that store brand is essentially the same as brand name. I have a membership with SAM's and am considering using their simply right formula which is supposed to be the generic to enfamil.

Has anyone used it? What are your thoughts on going store brand for formula?

You shouldn't have to supplement for a few weeks if you are planning on breast feeding?

But to answer your question, we used Kirkland (Costco generic) after 2 months of similac and had no issue. The only difference I found was that it was half the price.. and we still spent over $1000 on formula last year.

  • Thanks but that's a different brand to what I'm asking about

Ok, but that's like comparing enfamil to similac. It depends on your preference and baby I guess, but Costco generic or Sam's Club generic or Target generic are going to be the same thing.

  • You could always check the labels yourself just to make sure, but unless Baby has dietary restrictions, I would think you'd be fine.
  • I have not used Sam's, but I've definitely used Target Up&Up with no issues. :) Their 40 oz. one is like $23.
  • We used SAMs Club when DD was a baby, my supply was nil, and so we opted to FF. We inquired to the Pedi about Sam's formula and he said it is perfectly fine, and that all formula must meet minimum requirements/standards. We compared it to Enfamil and in certain categories, it was actually better than Enfamil. We stayed with Sam's Club brand for a year or so.
  • I had to supplement the first couple of weeks with both of my children.

I don't have experience with Sam's Club formula but used Target Up&Up that was compared to Enfamil Gentlease and had no problems.

I don't think we used more than a can though so I wouldn't buy very much. Milk supply was better, sooner with the second.

  • It all depends on the baby.  DD couldn't take anything but similac sensitive....anything else she would spit up.

  • I've researched this a bit, and what I've found out is that pretty much all formulas are the same unless your child has some sort of dietary restriction. The only difference is the price!

I've decided to use the store brand bc it's so similar and I feel like a sucker for listening to the old pediatrician and paying double for name brand last time!

However, I do have some coupons and sometimes the pediatrician hands out samples. I'm trying to figure out if its ok to switch back and forth between the name brand and store brand if the store brand is supposed to be the generic and same ingredients as that brand. Like I wouldn't use similac and then get the generic of enfamil. But if I used enfamil and used the generic of enfamil it should be interchangeable...right? Is there any reason it shouldn't be?
  • I used the Sam's Club brand formula for both of my children. Loved it! Worked just fine for my boys and the price couldn't be beat.
  • Yes, that is exactly what I have been using with my LO. Started off with Similac, and then I realized how much cheaper the generic was and we have been using it ever since.

I switch between generic and brand when I get coupons. Similac will send out $5 coupons and my grocery store has the concentrated 13 oz can for $5.48 or something, so I will get that, unless the container of powdered similac is on sale somewhere, then I will combine the sale with the coupon and it's almost as cheap.

I have interchanged Similac and Enfamil with no issues. It shouldn't matter what it's the generic of.
