Random question

DH and I were talking last night, and said it would be cool to go somewhere for a long weekend.  I said...you know, Panama City is only an 11 hour drive.  So I got to googling this morning.  IF (now, big if here), we were to go on a long weekend trip...I figured we could drive to either Pensacola, Destin/Ft. Walton, or Panama City.  So..my question is...which one would you drive to?  I'm sure they're all pretty similar lol

Re: Random question

  • ETA:  If we were to do this...we would leave Thursday night...drive 5-6 hours south and stay in a hotel.  Then get up early on Friday and drive the rest of the way...putting us in Florida around 1ish.  Then we would have Friday afternoon, all day Saturday, and all day Sunday.  Then we would leave around 9 or 10ish in the morning and get back around 11pm Monday night (adding in stops).  Do you think we'd be crazy to do this?

DH would drive anywhere in a heartbeat.  He hates to fly.  I'm the opposite.

He has drove to Panama City & to Gulf Shores.  I would be more inclined to go towards the Pensacola area vs Panama City - but I've never been to either so I'm not really sure.

In regards to the drive.  We drove to Myrtle Beach together - which I think was a 12 hour drive.  It wasn't too bad.  We did it all in a day.  I think we stayed for a week though.  Just know that you will be exhausted the day after you get back!

  • I know lol.  I would fly in a heartbeat if it was cost efficient!  But then I got to looking at costs...it'd still be almost $900 after hotel, gas, and food.  Is it really worth for essentially a 2 1/2 day vacation?  Ugh!  Lol

I totally splurged on my last minute Disney trip in March.  But I needed to get away.  Was it way more than I should have spent?  Yes.  But, between the rides and laying by the pool, I forgot about how unfair I feel life is.  That was worth it to me.

  • If your able to take a vacation do it. Doesn't matter if it's driving or flying. It's worth it. I've never been to any of those places as I recall.

Trip advisor is a good place to look if you're having trouble deciding/ finding things to do.
  • I've been to Panama a couple times. I liked it, but I've never been to the other two areas. I've never driven to FL myself, but a friend and I drove to NC one summer, and it was about the same distance. We traded off on the drive and it seemed to go by pretty quickly to me.

I don't think your crazy for wanting to go to FL for a long weekend. I wanted to do the same this summer, but can't justify spending money on a vacation this year. If you can do it, go for it!
