Pedi rec's

In light of the not so funny kids plus April fools joke this morning I think it's time to shift to a new pedi. We are in peters and may move to the south fayette or montour area in the near future. Recommendations?

Re: Pedi rec's

  • We go to Pediatrics South.  LOVED their Mt. Lebo location and NP Brooke Pletcher.  I think she is also in the Peter's office, but sadly isn't in the Robinson office.

We now go to the Robinson office and see Dr. Janet Breslin, who I like, but not as much as Brooke.

  • Also--what was the april fool's joke?

  • We go to Children's Community Pediatrics in Moon.  They just opened an office in South Fayette.  We love it there!  We've been going there for 5 years now and never had a bad experience.

  • I missed the April Fool's post, but I see that it was something that caused an uproar. However, I love many of the doctors there and feel like we get awesome care - so I wouldn't change my practice based on a FB post. Lots of times companies pay someone to maintain their social media pages, so I'm not "throwing the baby out with the bathwater."

  • Ah! South fayette and moon locations sound up our alley!

The joke was that they are opening bottle feeding centers at their locations this June. As a FF'er, I don't take kindly to a doctors office, especially my sons dr, making a joke out of how he is fed. I understand the term bottle feeding is vague and could mean anything. But I also know that hospitals tend to mark each newborn as breast fed or bottle fed, so bottle feeding, to me, = FF. I find it's inappropriate and unprofessional. I was already upset and angered over their new system of automatic debit or $10/paper bill. And the fact that they're far from us. This just finished it off.

  • IMO that's definitely something to be more upset about.

  • And I thought this was going to be a post about pedicures!

  • I was upset over the $10 charge. I almost pulled him then but figured I was unreasonable. I just know that we have an HSA and sometimes we pay bills from that account and sometimes with our account. It varies, depending on amount and how much we have in our hsa at the time. So I didn't want to be locked in to one payment. We just drained our hsa so I figured I'd give them that and then laugh when there was nothing in the account. Except then I'm sure they would charge a fee so the joke would be on me.

  • Oh I was going to recommend Kids Plus so I'm no help. I love dr Madelina so much! I didn't have an issue with the joke though .
  • As someone else who formula fed, I don't have an issue with that joke. But, I don't let something like this get to me bc it's not of importance to me.

We, as women, need to start being confident in the choices we make and the choices that are out of our control. Would I ever go back and do something differently if I had the choice? Yes, absolutely! I think they call that being a "Monday Morning Quarterback."

If you're happy with the practice and doctors overall, then I wouldn't let this get to you. If there have been other things bothering you, and this just topped the cake though, then your feelings are absolutely valid and this practice is just not the right fit.

    Good luck!

  • I just feel that how a business conducts itself is just as important as how they practice their skills. It was a joke in poor taste. I wouldn't change a thing. But it doesn't need to be joked about either. Making light of something that many of us feel would actually be a great idea (bottle feeding support centers) is just a kick in the gut. I will probably need to stick it out through DS's 18 mos appt next week then move.

  • I'm sorry you feel that way.  Especially when this practice has been incredibly helpful and understanding during my breastfeeding AND formula feeding of both children.  Just last week I took Harrison in for his well check visit, the dr was very supportive when I was said I am now almost completely formula feeding since my supply is gone.  I was a patient at the Lactation Center and they supported me with my goal of 50/50 but when I told them we had to formula feed (and got visually upset and teared up at the visit)  the drs words exactly were:  "He is healthy and thriving and that is what is most important."  I couldn't have ask for a better answer.  The April Fools joke was not a personal attack on the formula feeding moms.

The practice apologized and took down the "joke"  after the backlash on FB.  I am shocked that so many people took offense.
