I was NOT pleased. I really hoped that Ted would get to live happily ever after with the mother. I don't like that he spent so long getting over Robin, moving on, accepting her and Barney, finding someone else, then wound up with her anyway. I don't see them together - she's very career-focused and he is so family-focused, so I feel like they'd have the same types of problems that she and Barney had, but it would be worse for them.

And don't even get me started on the full season buildup to a wedding where the marriage lasted twenty minutes.

I was disappointed. This entire season has been too serious. I wanted laughs.

I hated that we spent the entire season on Barney and Robin's wedding just for the them to split 15 minutes later. They never should have gotten married in the first place.

I figured the mom was dead a few episodes back.

I also thought they tried too hard to stay away from a happy/traditional ending. Oh, Ted gets his girlfriend knocked up AND they don't get married for years AND Robin and Barney get divorce AND Barney knocks up some chick AND has a baby AND they don't hang out as much anymore AND the mom gets sick AND she dies AND yada yada yada yada. It was too much. Too forced.

I'll admit, I loved the blue french horn appearance and that Ted and Robin ended up together. As much as she annoyed me the last couple seasons, I always wanted them together. Not sure I wanted the mom to DIE in order for that to happen though.

I was really disappointed that the mom died. But the more I think about it l am glad it was Ted and Robin in the end if he didn't get to keep the mom.
I think they were trying to show at the end that Robin had changed a bit back to her old self. Less about her career (l am assuming because of all the dogs).

Barney and Ellie made me cry. So so sweet.

Marshall not saying anything bad about his job was too funny!

I never liked Robin and Ted together. I feel like we waited all this time to finally meet the mom and they just kill her? WTF?

A few episodes back there was foreshadowing and I told DH that the mom was dead. He's like "Why in the world would they do that???" Yeah, it make no sense other than the plan the entire time was to have Ted & Robin together however they already said she wasn't the mom.

DH and I never watched the show religiously, but we watched it an awful lot. He called it from the very beginning that Ted and Robin would end up together, and he's been saying for weeks that the mom was going to die (I didn't see whatever foreshadowing there was about that). Even since it became obvious that Robin was not the mother, DH was still holding out that maybe she was the mother of the second kid, or that something would happen and they would somehow end up together. As series finales go, I thought this one was really good! I loved these characters, and I really liked the way they wrapped everything up. So fitting that Barney had a baby girl, and I also teared up when he met her.

I didn't watch it nor did I watch the show but it seems like people either loved it or hated it. There's not much in between.

The only part I really liked was when Barney met his daughter. I loved Barney and Robin, and HATED that an entire season (and the final season) was "wasted" on build up to a marriage that didn't last at all, just so that Ted and Robin could end up together. Just like I thought Ted had gotten over it, I had gotten over them, too.

I also kind of feel like Lily got the shaft on the finale. She was just kind of there for the ride and not a major player.

I'm just so glad it's over. The show has been bad for a few seasons now (I almost didn't make it through last year's season) and I expected the finale to suck, which it did. I missed whatever foreshadowing there was about the mother dying but it didn't surprise me that they found a way for Ted to end up with Robin.

I pretty much loved it. It ended exactly the way I always thought it would. I have been disappointed with the show over the last two seasons because it had just sort declined for me. I hung on through the longest wedding weekend ever thinking that the payoff would be the finale. And I did.

I loved The Mother. I thought she was a great addition to the show, but the story was never *really* about her. The ending seemed fitting to what the show was about, more of a journey than an obvious HEA. Once they introduced The Mother at the end of the last season, I had a feeling that it would turn out the way it did.

I quit watching it in Season 3 or 4. It just kept dragging on and on to the point I lost interest in it. But I wanted to watch the finale because I was curious with how things ended with the mother. I did read a spoiler a couple weeks ago where she dies. I was disappointed when it really happened because I thought her and Ted were great together.

That said, I'm happy he ended up with Robin. I have been rooting for them from Day 1. I didn't like her and Barney together AT ALL. That pairing was just like the Joey/Rachel pairing on Friends. Very awkward.

Here is what I did love about the entire final season and the finale -- for a series that has so many inside jokes, they did justice to them. I can't think of a single joke, plot point, cameo or recurring character that was not brought out and laid to rest. That's the reason I didn't mind that the format for the last season changed to take place over just the wedding weekend. Normally I hate a gimmick like that, but it suited its purpose.

I wasn't a fan of Ted and Robin, so I don't love that they ended up together, but maybe I could after I let it settle. That's because of the kids' reaction. Their two minutes of pointing out to him that the story has been about Robin all along and that it's been six years since the mom died -- that was perfect. Because even someone like me who is did not want them to end up together, can approve. If it had just been Ted deciding to call her without the kids suggesting it, I definitely would have hated it. I appreciate that it came full circle and loved that, if it was going that direction, it ended with the blue french horn.

I hated that Barney and Robin split. I loved them together. Before there was even a glimmer of them hooking up, I always thought they should. I liked Robin most when she was with Barney and I kept hoping that they would reunite.

I hated that the group grew apart, but it was realistic I suppose.

I loved Barney and his daughter! I cried when he met her. I also loved when he scolded those girls in the bar.

I didn't like that Lily and Marshall were barely in the finale, but at the same time, there was a lot of the final season devoted to them.

I hated that the mother died. What little glimpses we got of her through the season, I loved her and how perfect she was for Ted. I missed whatever the foreshadowing was that she would die.

Overall, while there was a lot I didn't like about the finale (really, so much of it was so miserable), at the same time, I think the final season and finale were among the best sendoffs for any long-running show. I think it was very well done and have a great appreciation for it. I'm still mulling over Ted and Robin and trying to decide if I can love that after I get over the loss of the mom and the Barney-Robin split. My heart needs time.

Thank goodness Lily's costume (I whaley loved it!) lent some levity because otherwise I'd have been a hot blubbering mess.

@MrsC7 Oh geez, all I kept making myself think at that part was, "Look how silly Lily looks. Look how silly Lily looks!" If I focused on anything else, I would have been in tears.

The foreshadowing of the mother's death (in my opinion) was in the Vesuvius episode. Ted and the mother are having dinner at the inn in the future. They were talking about how she knew all of Ted's stories and she told him to try to live life going forward instead of just paying attention to the past. Then she gets all quiet and says something like, "What mom is going to miss her daughter's wedding?" They both get all choked up and then change the subject.

I mean, after all this build up and how close the group was, she had to be completely awesome, not just for Ted, but to be accepted by the friends. If there was the slightest bit of non-completely-awesomeness, it wouldn't work. Not just for the final season when we finally meet her, but, for me at least, for the entire series. "We waited all those years for her????" Imagine the reaction of the fanbase. But I think they wrote her perfectly. I especially love that they had everyone else meet and adore her separately first.

A couple of my favorite moments of the finale were when Barney saw the mom and almost burst trying to get Ted to go along with "Have You Met Ted?" and when Ted was in the bar instead of Chicago and said he wasn't doing that because he met a girl, lol.

We binge-watched the last 5 episodes last night. I was somewhat prepared because of all the generic rage I saw all over the internet, so I didn't think it was that bad.

I am NOT a Robin fan in general, but especially this last season. I just don't get what these guys are so obsessed with.

That said... it would have been dumb if after all that, they didn't end up together. So I didn't mind it. And I loved that Barney, at the end, was like "you guys, can't I just be Barney?" The daughter scene was cute, but I thought it was totally unnecessary and kind of forced.

As per usual, Marshall was the best thing about this show.

Yes, this was GREAT! And they all thought she was perfect for Ted before Ted even met her.

I didn't mind the final episode, and I think that they did a good job of tying up all the loose ends. With everything that happened between Ted and Victoria, he almost HAD to end up with Robin, I was bummed that the mother died, and was all 'Are you kidding me?' when it was revealed, but the ending with the blue french horn was perfect.

With that being said, I was so ready for this show to be over. The last two seasons killed me, and the never ending wedding weekend was just too much.

I was not happy about the mother dying. I thought it was an easy way out to have a "shock" in the finale that Ted ended up with Robin. Obviously they planned it to happen this way all along since the kids' reactions were filmed back during season one. But I really liked Ted and the mother together and even though it has been six years since the mother died it kind of cheapened his relationship with her that he has been carrying a torch for Robin all this time.
