What are your thoughts on...

Marijuana?? Do you think it should be legal? Happy Thursday girls.. xo http://news.yahoo.com/poll-nationwide-marijuana-legalization-inevitable-175207564.html

Re: What are your thoughts on...

  • I'm "meh, whatever" on it.  It won't change my life either way, and from what I've read alcohol can have worse affects than marijuana.  But I don't know enough on it to make an educated decision.

Tritto. While I have no desire to use it myself, I don't see it as any worse than alcohol (and actually better in most respects). I also don't think legalizing it will cause THAT many more people to go out and buy it. It's going to be the same people that are already buying it but will add some much needed revenue to strained government budgets.

@nfp147 I totally agree. They are doing this in Colorado and made a grip of money in taxes on it in this short amount of time. I figure, people are gonna smoke it, may as well legalize it and make money off of it. Get outta debt California. I just know some people are way against it and I like to hear peoples' opinions. :)

  • I think I'm in the "legalize, control, and tax" camp. Put a legal age on its use (just like for cigarettes and alcohol), and set up shops to sell it safely.

And then regulate laws on where it can be used like with drinking. Not a difficult concept!

  • I'm also "meh" about it. I really don't care either way. But I do think regulating it is the main issue. For instance, if someone is suspected of drunk driving, they take a breathalizer. If a cop suspects someone of driving high, how will they know for sure? An on the spot drug test? (I can see it now... Cop: "Pee in this cup NOW" lol) And how do you set a legal limit for how high someone can be while driving, etc.? I think it's a good idea in theory; just not sure we're there yet.

I totally agree, however, WHO is controlling it becomes a problem. Right now it's a state's right/law to legalize it, but the Feds still view it as an illegal substance, so they can crack down on distributors who are doing everything by the book. I think as more state's adopt a legalization of it, then hopefully the Feds will calm the eff down.

  • If they legalized marijuana the economy would be doing so much better. It should be legalized. I don't understand why it's even up for debate. Then again, I feel this way about a lot of subjects.

This is a tricky aspect of legalization. Right now, a person can get a DUI if MJ is in the bloodstream. Whether a person is high at the time of the incident or not, if it's in the blood, the charges are able to be filed. They take the suspected person to the hospital for a blood test in order to determine metabolites in the system. Other than field sobriety tests, there's no way to determine impairment while driving under the influence of MJ.

I'm in the same boat as most of you, except on the bolded point. DH and I enjoy it, just not enough for the hassle/risk in our state, so we don't smoke. FIL has said pretty much the same thing. I have a feeling a lot more people would buy - albeit not necessarily on a regular basis - if it were legal.
