Buzzfeed thinks reading "isn't my kind of thing"
There were a lot of cases where I've read something else by the given author or a single book in a trilogy. But there were a lot of things on that list that I've honestly never heard of.
*Corrected; I missed one the first time.

"People talk about escapism as if it's a bad thing... Once you've escaped, once you come back, the world is not the same as when you left it. You come back to it with skills, weapons, knowledge you didn't have before. Then you are better equipped to deal with your current reality."

I think the confusing thing is the term 'well read'. I mean, we all read a ton compared to the national average, but I wouldn't say that I'm well read. Shoot, I've got the vampire corner COVERED, but classics bore the shit out of me. I'm not a very diverse reader. I like what I like, you know?

You’re a beginner, and that’s OK. Hopefully you’ll find something here that suits you. If not, the wonderful world of books has many more works to tempt you.

I've read 47 off that list and got a "Good job!" Of course, the reason I've read most of those is because I'm reading from the 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die. And while I don't think you have to read classics to be "well-read", I'm gaining an appreciation for why classic ARE classic. I don't like all of them, but the way I think about writing and what I consider quality has changed.
