Book Nerd Problem (BNP)

I bought The Golem and the Jinni in paperback since it was so raved about, I figured I was going to want it for my Library. Now that I started it, I can't stop reading it, and I'm tempted to buy it again for the Kindle so I can sneak in a Chapter or two at work.

Have you ever bought a book twice? My husband says I'm crazy, but I NEED TO READ THIS BOOK.

Re: Book Nerd Problem (BNP)

  • Oh I've totally bought a book in hardback and ebook formats.  Usually chunkers - I pre-ordered Wise Man's Fear and then bought it on nook too because it was easier to read - but I still needed it on my shelf.  Same with Dance of Dragons.

  • I do this a lot in the other direction-- if I read something on my Kindle and absolutely love it I buy a physical copy for my library. I am also terrible about lending books out then immediately buying another copy because I assume I will never get it back. A friend came to visit me last week who I hadn't seen in almost three years and she brought back three books I had lent her--all of which I had already re-purchased. Oops!!

I do this with audiobooks sometimes. I feel like the audiobook is going too slow and I need to get to the end and find out what happens.

  • I have done this so many times, often out of pure laziness than anything else. I don't even own an e-reader but will order a Kindle book on my phone if I'm out and need something to read and didn't bring my paper copy with me.

  • This helps me feel less lame. I'm buying it!

Side Note: TGATJ really is beautifully written. This book is exactly my type.

  • I do this. I own Kindle copies and hard copies of so many books, especially big thick books or ones I've loved and don't want to mess up the hard copy.

  • I do this pretty frequently. I have a few Neil Gaiman's in paperback, hardback, and ebook. I have to have them all!

  • I've bought a couple books that I read from the library... and then never re-read them.

I'm seriously tempted to re-buy a HC set of HG - my neighbor borrowed them over a year ago and no matter how many times I ask she doesn't give them back.

This is me.  I have the whole Outlander series in all of these formats.

But yes, I do it all the time.  Most often, I'll get the ebook.  If I like it, I want to see it on my bookshelves so I buy the hardcover.

I do this but the key is not to tell your hubby. Lol.
In fact I have copies of books for the sole intention of lending them out. I keep my good copies for myself.

I tend to be the opposite.  I'll buy the book thinking I really want the hold-in-your-hand version, then get annoyed that I forgot it somewhere or my reading light's burned out or something and download the ebook on my phone.

I do this a lot too. For The Name of the Wind and WMF, my husband and I each have Kindle copies, we have a paperback and the audio versions.

Since the Whispersync option came about, I've gotten so many books (including The Golem and the Jinni) in both Kindle and Audible formats.

  • This is why I stopped buying e-books unless they're super cheap. I would buy the print copy for my bookshelves if I really loved the e-book.

  • I've never read a hard copy of a book and then purchased on the kindle, but the other way around I have. I first read The Hunger Games on the kindle, but ended up really wanting a physical copy of the series!

  • I do this accidentally.  For instance, I just got a few books from the library, not realizing until after I'd finished one, it was already in my TBR mountain.  At least I didn't pay for it twice!
