So I've been having some really frustrating side effects with my paragard IUD: long, heavy periods that leave me exhausted, icky cramps, mid-cycle cramping, etc.

That being said, I've decided to have it removed and go back to using a diaphragm.

I just called my gyno office to make an appt. I was not able to get in with my regular doc but will see the nurse practitioner next week, which is fine.

However, the receptionist was totally rude about it. She questioned why I want it removed and suggested I just wait until my annual exam. She also rudely said that it might not be covered by my insurance (will have to check). Wtf lady? It's my body!

Thanks for listening. I hate dr offices and just found this highly annoying.

  • I'm so sorry it's not working well with your body. F that bitch at the office! I'm sure she'd do the same damn thing if she were in your position.

FX insurance covers it for you!

  • Sorry the IUD isn't working out very well, and that the receptionist wasn't the most pleasant to speak with.

Not sure how long you have had it for, but I remember reading that it can take 6-9 months for your body to get used to it and most people have heavy periods before they go away completely.

But hopefully whatever you decide, insurance will cover it and not have a problem.

  • @brij2006 I was told the 6-9 months too. It's been about 6 months so maybe I am removing it prematurely, but it actually seems to be getting worse instead of better.

Sorry you're having a bad experience with the IUD. Also, tell that receptionist to mind her own damn business!

ETA: I know it's their job to get certain information so it's not always appropriate to tell them to butt out, but they're certainly not supposed to be rude about it!

  • Eff her. It's your decision. Who is she to act like Judgey McJudgerson about it? IUDs just aren't the right answer for every woman out there. I think you have every right to choose to remove it if it's not working well for you.

  • Nothing irks me more than a rude receptionist when you are being polite. Don't give me the bitch act and especially when it's my body.

  • WTF? How rude! Also, I'm pretty sure a receptionist giving medical advice over the phone is an absolute no-no.
