GTKY: Dessert

What is your favorite type of cake? Can you make it yourself?

Re: GTKY: Dessert

  • My grandmother's pineapple upside down cake.  I have to make it myself as it's a secret family recipe.

  • Chocolate cake with PB icing...I can do it but I dont do it often

  • All of them, except maybe carrot cake? I guess I would be especially partial to red velvet and anything with a chocolate/peanut butter combo.

As far as making them, I'm not a very good baker. I've been known to mess up cake from a box mix, which I guess is for the best because a whole cake is a lot for two!

  • Cheesecake. And, I've never tried making it.
  • I love pineapple upside down cake. I have made several. I have made them from a box and from scratch. Yum!

  • @joybaby5 you can make a no bake cheesecake from Jello and it's actually not bad. It comes with a crust but we usually do something different for the crust because I'm not a huge fan of that one.

My grandmother made a strawberry cake all from scratch. She showed me how to make it when I was younger and I just recently found the recipe and made it again. It reminds me of my childhood and it's so amazing.
  • I make a killer Irish car bomb cupcake that I used to make every st Patrick's day. (It's a lot of work though) Guinness stout chocolate cake, Irish whiskey chocolate ganache filling, and Bailey's butter cream frosting. Adults only!

I made a pumpkin cheesecake with a gingersnap/pecan crust this past year for Thanksgiving, and coming from the girl who can barely make cake from a box it was easy and SOOOO good! I haven't mastered how to keep it from cracking but I hope to work on it!

pan of water on the oven shelf below your cheesecake while baking.  turn oven off and crack the door to let it cool before removing.   :)

I did both of these things and STILL wound up with the Grand Canyon in the middle of my cheesecake!! Luckily I made a salted caramel sauce to go with it and the giant crack down the middle held a lot of delicious caramel!

Someone suggested wrapping the pan in aluminum foil and putting it in a pan of water. I'm going to try that next time.
