I finished reading
The Boy Who Sneaks in My Bedroom Window by Kirsty Moseley for the SBC category, "Read a book whose title is at least 6 words long. Post a review."
I had originally bought this book for the WBC but put it on the back burner after reading some poor reviews both on GR and this board. But I thought I would give it a chance and read it this weekend. It's a love story between Amber and Liam who have known each other for years. Liam (18) sleeps in Amber's (16) bed each night because she suffers terrible nightmares after being sexually abused by her father and the only way for her to sleep is cuddled up next to Liam. Well after some "will they or won't they" they finally become a couple. That's about when the booked jumped the shark and went complete BSC.
Examples of the BSC:
- Amber and Liam secretly date for approximately 4 days and in the meantime all the girls in school place a bet to see who can sleep with Liam next since he's a sex god. It's a $20 buy in and the pool gets up to $4,000. Really? I mean, come on, really?! 200 girls are all vying for the spot to be his next lay? So then Amber decides she wants to win the money. She had spent a lot of time explaining to Liam how she won't be ready to have sex for a very long time due to her past but then she ends up sleeping with him less than a week after they start dating because she's totally ready and who couldn't use 4k? Uh what?
- Liam is off to college in the fall but Amber still has two years left of highschool. Solution? She'll go with him! Nevermind that she's still a minor and there's all sorts of legal issues going on there. Nope. She'll just finish up highschool via correspondence courses and they'll live happily ever after.
So then more fluff, filler, crazy shenanigans, blah blah blah. Her father comes back into the picture and even more ridiculous drama ensues including a pregnancy and then a miscarriage. By the end, I was just laughing at the absurdity of everything. I imagine the author just kept throwing BSC situations in there because there was no real plot to the story. Eventually things wind down and everything is wrapped up in a nice, little bow in the epilogue.
In short, I would not recommend this book. I gave it 2*
