audiobook help!

Hey ladies I have asked before and stalked other threads about audiobooks as I am trying to find several to queue on my library account, but most of the ones I have seen aren't available through my library. grrr

I found a few I have liked but I have also tried and stopped several more.

If anyone has some spare time could I get some suggestions available on my library :D (that is a link for mobile users)

one I liked was The Peach Keeper

I had to quite Sisterland I think that was the narrator although I haven't tried to read the book.

I have been using my phone which can only get mp3 not wma but I am potentially open to using my ipod...

TIA

Re: audiobook help!

  • Also an aside I am too cheap for audible at this point but an occasional cheap audiobook would be ok.

  • Oh man, you've got so many on there I'd love to try.  One that I've listened to and can recommend is Mr. Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore.

  • I was going to take a look but I only see ebooks, no audiobooks?

I second this, it's one of my favorite audiobooks.

  • There are a ton, but I just don't know what to choose and I have chosen poorly so far that I decided to ask for help.

I have read mr. penumbras bookstore but I will add it to my audio list.

@beebe918 I tried to make the link just audiobooks but obviously that didn't work.  if you click the tab that looks like a list you can choose audiobooks

  • hmm I think something has changed with overdrive because I can't even see audiobooks via my own account now.  I have a chromebook so they're not compatible but I used to still be able to browse.

Anyway, I looked at your tbr and while I don't know if they are offered at your library the books on your tbr that I've listened to and can highly recommend are: Daughter of Smoke and Bone and The Art of Racing in the Rain.

Also not sure if your library offers this but on my overdrive if you search for a book and the library does not have it if you scroll to the bottom of the page past all the results there is a box that says something like didn't find what you were looking for? click here to suggest books for your library to buy.  My library buys every book I suggest to them!

  • I'm not sure what your tastes are but just wanted to say, don't forget about the free audiobooks offered by Sync all summer long.

  • Thank you @jliongirl. I was trying to remember that site a few days ago. I have never taken advantage of it before but will definitely look into this summer.

  • I don't recommend Life After Life by Kate Atkinson.  I thought the audio was so boring I had to stop listening.

I've heard good things about the audio for Tell the Wolves I'm Home and The Dinner by Herman Koch.

I enjoyed listening to The Time Keeper and Game of Thrones, but it is soooo long.

  • Thanks for this thread.  I am going to finish Doctor Sleep on audio in the next day or two, and just realized I don't have another audiobook waiting for me!  I just requested Unbroken and Mr. Penumbra from my library, so we'll see which one is ready first!
  • Thanks ladies. I am bit sure why the kink is a PITA.

If you click the tab that looks like a list I think you can search the guidebooks that way Grr.

Unbroken is in audio I have that one on my list. Will check the others.

I agree Life After Life on audio is a no go and Tell The Wolves I'm home was well-done on audio, I just didn't enjoy the novel, I don't think I was in the right mindset.

Okay I was able to browse the audiobooks at work.

My thoughts on the books available that I've listened to:

    Ender's Game: Fantastic audio-book

Homefront by Kristin Hannah: Audio is well-done but I didn't enjoy the novel in and of itself, I did listen to Winter Garden and liked it.

Sycamore Row and the Racketeer by John Grisham are both well-done, nothing spectacular but decent.

World War Z: Would not recommend as audio, I found it hard to follow and I thought all audio versions of this book were very abridged but yours says complete edition, so I'm not sure?

Silver Lings Playbook: possibly the best audio-book I've listened to.

Gone-Girl, The Night Circus, The Help, Water for Elephants, the Game of Thrones series and Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest series are all great on audio.

Room: Would not recommend as audio, I found the narration very grating.

The Passage by Justin Cronin: Definitely would not recommend on audio, I found it very hard to follow.

Liked the Great Gatsby on audio

The Book of Lies by Brad Metzler was decent, nothing special, I think I listened to it b/c I was in a pinch and it was readily available.

I have not listened to but have heard Ready Player One was really good on audio.
