Anyone else have a measles outbreak nearby?! We had one at the local hospital, and as I work in a school where several of our students were in the hospital were exposed to measles, we all got a notice! It states: 1- check your immunity records 2-if you are not pregnant and do not have two vaccines to measles get a booster 3-if you're pregnant and do not have the record of two shots or a measles blood test, stay home for 21 days!!! And the school nurse needs all of this yesterday! (we got the notice at around 4pm on Monday) Since sick time is used towards materinity leave, I really don't want to waste it now if I don't have to!!!
My midwife wants my records, and wants to give me the blood test (because while they checked for Rubella, they do not routinely check for regular measles anymore) So, I call my main doctor, they have no record of any of my immunizations even though my mom says "I had them shoot you up with every possible one" (I've moved several times, and those records were lost long ago from my pediatricians office...I know because I called them too!) I call my university, luckily they have my immunization records (don't know how they have them when my doctor doesn't, but okay) Unfortunately it takes 5-7 bussiness days for them to MAIL THEM! Obviously HIPPA and all that, but kind of annoying when it comes to possibly wasted sick time.
Luckily I got a nurse to tell me over the phone at the University health center what dates my immunizations were, which made me feel better, and they faxed a copy to my midwife, where I already signed medical releases so she faxed them to me, so I could give them to the school nurse, then had to rush to have blood drawn after school for the blood test. CRAZY CRAZY DAY!!!
Sorry that was long, but here's the lesson: get your immunization records now so if you are told to stay home for 21 days using your sick time with out those records, you don't have to.
Re: Measles!
Glad you got your records and don't have to deal with that mess!
