Jury Duty

I'm scheduled for tomorrow.

So, tell me:

Have you ever been?
Any good stories?
Ever been on a jury?
Would you be annoyed or excited to get called?

Re: Jury Duty

  • Depending on the case, i think it could be kinda interesting. I've never been and never been called.

  • I grew up in Cuyahoga County and never got called for jury duty... a week after I moved to Lake County, I got a jury summons for Cuyahoga. I was exempt!!! I think I would enjoy jury duty, depending on the case. One of the girls at work was in jury duty for like 2 months. It was crazy.

  • I have done it and I was totally excited. However I was in college still and I was studying criminal justice so it was/is my kind of thing. I was picked to be a juror and once the jury was picked the guy didn't like his odds so he took a deal. The case was on drugs and they apparently had lots of evidence on the guy. I had actually made a few "friends" and ended up getting a part time job from one of the other jurors. It turned out to be just a summer job but still.
  • I  hate it. Think it may be the most painful thing. I get called all the time.

I was on a drug case and it was horrible because we had to let him go because the lawyers didn't do their job and it was awful knowing that we put him back on the streets.

I got called again but it was  for  drunk diving. I had a friend killed because of DD so I was released.

I just had federal and had to go into Philly but thankfully was not picked to even get screened.

  • I've done it once before. I did get picked to be on the jury. Think it only lasted two days.... I actually thought it was kind of fun got me out of work for a couple days change of scenery I guess!

  • I've been summoned but never placed on a jury. The whole process was kind of boring, but I think it'd be fun to serve at least once.

  • I've been called once before. I was in college (in VA) with jury duty in CT.

I was able to reschedule for during my break- but every time I was questioned, they would first ask me where I went to school, and when I was going back. No one wanted me :( I think it would be pretty interesting to actually be on a jury, but it was such a waste to sit there all day, knowing no one would pick me.

  • once before went threw the whole thing until they picked the jury.. I didn't get picked to sit on the jury & I was ok with that.  I think it was something about drugs or something it was long time ago.  It was interesting all the legal stuff and what ever.

  • Never. But don't you have to be registered to vote to get picked? I move a lot and I don't always register to vote where I live, unless it's a big election, then I always make sure I can vote. It's funny this was brought up today, because we were talking about jury duty at work today because someone was called in. It's one of those things that you don't hear about it for like years until it's brought up and then all of a sudden, everyone is talking about it for a week until it dies again

  • In CT they make a list of all registered voters, all licensed drivers, anyone collecting unemployment and anyone who paid and/ or owed state income tax last year.
Once they have that list, they remove duplicates, and start picking.

@geojam224- I agree. I was just saying the same thing. I do payroll for a decent sized company (700+ employees) and in the past month, there have been 3 of us called. None for the first 8 months I worked there, then bam. 3.

  • I got summoned once. I was so excited. I've been in the court room for work but never in an unbiased context. I didn't get picked :( I just sat in the jury room for half a day watching the Olympics until they released us.
