Re: Monday accountability post

  • 1) Mine was pretty MM... I only spent about $20 on groceries and $40 on gas.... but H and I celebrated our first anniversary, so we splashed out at a really nice restaurant.  I'm not going to post how expensive it was, but it was worth every penny!  And we did come in under our budget for that.

    2) I added $2,000 to our house savings!

    3) I'm kind of terrified of thunderstorms.  Thunder just puts me on edge....  I wish I could be like the cat and run under the bed when it happens!

  • 1. How MM was your weekend?

Friday-$569 Vet apt (xrays, physical, meds)

Saturday-$37 Gas, Did some shopping but it was all in fun money, gift cards, coupons

    Sunday- $0

Most of vet was unexpected, but still not good, ugg.

    2. Any Progress toward goals?

No, we are slightly falling behind. Haven't contributed anything to house or savings in the last few weeks or so. Hoping to do so before the next check....not a good feeling

    3. Anything you are afraid of?

Sometimes the dark or strange noises, thunderstorms/hurricaines/tornados, wild animals/bugs, creepy looking people. I'm also paranoid about home invasions, car accidents and fires if those count.

    $40-spring cleaning supplies

    2) Any progress toward goals?
installing the raised garden beds has been a goal for the past 2 years...

    3) What is something you are afraid of that is completely ridiculous or irrational?
I hate being in the unfinished part of our basement alone. on the other hand, I love thunderstorms.

    2) Any progress toward goals?  Paid off 2 more student loans. :-)  Now we're back to H's last student loan.  Hopefully we will have that finished by next month.
    3) What is something you are afraid of that is completely ridiculous or irrational? Weird textures on skin. I couldn't watch X-men because of the textures on their bodies.  I only saw 5 minutes of it and had bad dreams that night and was scratching my skin for days.
It's rediculous.  I can watch surgery, skydive, and get anything gross on my hands.  But can't handle weird textures on skin.

  • 1) How MM was your weekend?
I was sick for most of it so I canceled my plans. H had to get a jacket for a wedding he's in. I think that was about $100. I got some cold meds and a new straightening iron at CVS, so $60.

    2) Any progress toward goals?
Just continuing to save extra for closing costs. I hate not knowing exactly how much they will come to so I'm trying to make sure we have a good chunk of change ready for what's coming our way.

    3) What is something you are afraid of that is completely ridiculous or irrational?
People. Sad but true. I'm pretty sure I have a touch of social anxiety so when thrown into certain social situations I really feel uneasy. On a more amusing side...I hate having my hand dangle off the side of the bed when I'm sleeping or having my feet exposed. I have this ridiculous feeling that something will grab at them.

  • 1 - the terrible 3's must be getting to me because I seem to not remember totals of what I spend like I use to and I'm too lazy to find the receipts.  Our weekend was not as good as last weekend but that's because the Kmart close to us is closing so everything is on sale, we got some patio stuff there.  Also the dollar general store up the street just opened so we had to check it out.  I was impressed by all they had, it was super nice!

We ate out at Olive Garden Fri night and I had a BOGO on entrees to use.  We saw Captain America yesterday and met the inlaws for dinner last night with another BOGO

My most unexpected part was going to the grocery store yesterday and I had a different cashier who has her own system of coupons in a box, alphabetized.  When she rang in food that I bought that she had a coupon for, she stopped, found the coupon and rang it in for me!  She saved me $8.  I found out her schedule and will only go to her from now on.  Such a nice thing to do for her customers

2- got our refund back from taxes - $959 - put that in the emergency fund.

3 - I'm afraid of spiders, bees, and pretty much any bug that flies.

  • 1) How MM was your weekend? It was fairly good! We went over budget on groceries a little bit, but that's the only thing we spent money on. $117 for groceries - but we found good deals, stocked up on some things and such. :)

    2) Any progress toward goals? Yes! We put in approximately $1K into our savings for a house. We came up with a definite list of requirements for a house and we plan to stick to it. When we first started thinking about buying a house we had a list of things we wanted, but after looking at houses a few times we have realized some aren't as important and some we didn't know we wanted! So it was very nice to be able to narrow it down.

    3) What is something you are afraid of that is completely ridiculous or irrational? I am afraid of dark/deep water haha! Even if it's a deep pool, or something, it just freaks me out. I have to work very hard to be in water that I can't clearly see the bottom. Sometimes even seeing the bottom when it's deep is something I don't like. I can swim good, I just don't understand my fear of it.

  • 1) How MM was your weekend? Pretty good- Groceries ($120), Gas ($40), Target ($85)
    2) Any progress toward goals? Everything is completed except to fund our Roth IRA for 2014. The money is all set- just need to move it over there. DH and I will get a list going of house repairs/clean up to do over the summer. The more we think about the middle school, the more upset we get- but we know we have some time and we're trying to be calm and smart about it.

    3) What is something you are afraid of that is completely ridiculous or irrational? I can't think of anything off of the top of my head- I'll update if something comes to mind this week.  :)

    1. $30 for Thai food, but we did get three meals each out of it. $40 for dry cleaning. Bills: TV, Phone, Insurance, Energy Bill, almost $1000. (Insurance will cover us for the next three years & it's all in the budget.)

    2.  AW! We close on our house tomorrow!

    3. Being sold into human trafficking. Totally irrational because who would want an old & busted 33 year old.... Maybe because we were just watching Taken....I also hate snakes.
  • 1) How MM was your weekend?
Very good. We went to dinner & stayed within the budget I had set. Unfortunately, the atmosphere & food wasn't what we thought it would be and we will be going back to our regular friday night fish fry resturant which is actually cheaper. We went grocery shopping on Saturday & still have $40.00 left for the next two weeks. Which doesn't sound like much but there isn't much we will have to buy in a week except for some fresh veggies. We also stocked up on bags of mulch (28 bags) thanks to a great sale at Home Depot. We got 2 yards of mulch from home depot for what it would have cost to have 1 yard delivered, a savings of $50.00-$60.00 (including delivery fee)
    2) Any progress toward goals? April installment payments on bills have been paid, one of the debts will be officiall paid off in two more payments

    3) What is something you are afraid of that is completely ridiculous or irrational? That we will never get our debts paid off. Just was we get some paid off or close to paid off we get new ones. We have husbands debts almost paid off & now we have some new medical bills that came in much higher then anticipated. Luckily husband just got a raise which will help. But I just feel like we will never break even. This is a irrantional thought because if we stick to our budget and just keep making payments to people, we will get everything paid off.
  • Hi Ladies!

My first time posting over on this board.

    1) How MM was your weekend?
Did the usual grocery shopping which was $88 but need to pick up a few extra items this week they didn't have so I'll add $20 to that. Then I caved and we had Domino's for lunch $12.70 and KMart $3

    2) Any progress toward goals?
Made an extra car payment today. Yay!
    3) What is something you are afraid of that is completely ridiculous or irrational?
Nothing I can think of now.

  • So I'm back form vacation and have internet again--woot! :D

    1) How MM was your weekend? The past few weeks have been pretty bad since we were on vacation out of the country. We didn't spend nearly as much as we thought we would (thank you family who enjoys paying when we all go out to eat, haha) but pretty much depleted our travel fund.

    2) Any progress toward goals? We were able to put extra $ towards DH's SLs this month! This is our first month paying a mortgage instead of rent and while I knew we'd be saving money, it feels pretty awesome to have so much extra cash to use towards debt and savings.

    3) What is something you are afraid of that is completely ridiculous or irrational? Ants. With their beady little eyes and pinchers...ugh, they totally freak me out. And yet I'm oddly fascinated by them and love learning about them (so long as they are a safe distance away). I blame the fact that as a toddler my little brother fell face first onto a fire ant hill and I had to pull him out and brush all the bugs off of him--ouch! Ugh--now my skin is crawling just thinking about those things!

  • 1) How MM was your weekend?  Not good, went out to eat three times including with friends on Saturday, total $95.  Went to Target and got my son and I soccer balls to play with and other items $56.  We used debit cards for all of these expenses.  I finally told my wife just to keep all of the cards since I tend to be the spend thrift in the family.  I do a good job of saving money up for a while then I tend to spend it.

    2) Any progress toward goals? My wife just got a $1 an hour raise and her spring bonus.  She is using some of the bonus to pay for mine and our son's birthdays in May and June.  She also has some for other emergencies while moving $800 to our Housing fund/ Emergency fund.  I should find out this week what my increase will be this year.  It has been roughly 3% since I started which will help us a lot.

    3) What is something you are afraid of that is completely ridiculous or irrational? I hate large crowds especially if going through a bottle neck.  Most of this is because I am one of those that gets drained being around large numbers of people and always do better in small crowds or by myself.
  • 1. It was all within budget except for an unscheduled lunch on Sunday ($40.00). Unstoppable sushi craving :(

    2. Small donations to house fund, larger to vacation fund since our trip is approaching.

    3. I'm terrified of my loved ones getting in car accidents. I'm also afraid of getting attacked on my way to the car after work (I'm usually the last one out).
  • 1) How MM was your weekend?

Not great. I found out about a last minute consignment sale and spent $118 on items for DD and the new baby. Aeropostle was closing at our local mall, so DH and I bought a total of 7 shirts and 2 pairs of jeans for $22 total. We did go out to eat on Saturday (not budgeted - $20). I forgot to budget a vet appointment for our pup and shelled out $200 for it (this also included flee medication).

    2) Any progress toward goals?

I put 49 cents away from the leftover balance in March, haha. I always start the new month fresh by taking any money that was left over in our account on the Thursday before the first payday of the new month and placing it in our savings. This month was .49. Oh well. Other than that, nope.

    3) What is something you are afraid of that is completely ridiculous or irrational?

I'm always afraid of cold and flu season. I am afraid of being sick, and I'm afraid if anyone around me is sick. I'm also afraid of deep water; I can't go into deep water where it passes my chest.

  • I'm super late, but I'll post anyway. I've was sick Monday and Tuesday so I haven't been on. :)

    1) How MM was your weekend? I spent $125 at Petsmart, ridiculous I know, but my dog is spoiled rotten! I did buy her a huge bag of food that will last 5 months and she got groomed.  Other than that I spent $20 picking up random things at the grocery store, $25 for movie tickets, and $4 at Chik-Fil-A.

    2) Any progress toward goals? Yes! I put $150 in savings and put $50 toward a credit card. We also put down our new floors in our half bath/foyer. We had just enough flooring, literally only 1 board left, which was great from MM standpoint because we didn't waste money with extra material!

    3) What is something you are afraid of that is completely ridiculous or irrational? I probably have the most ridiculous fear imaginable, but pickles. Absolutely hate them! If I order food I always say without pickles and if there's a pickle on my plate whoever I'm with has to remove it for me because I won't touch them. Completely irrational I know, and I have no idea why I'm this way. I've never even tried one. haha

You've never tried a pickle!?!? You are missing out! So good :)

  • abrewer5 I totally understand the pickles thing...If you put a pickle on my sandwich or something....Ewwww! I can't stand that--it makes the whole the meal taste like pickle!

But, you should totally give fried pickles a try. It sounds weird and kind of gross, but they are surprisingly tasty! Someone convinced me to try one when I moved to Georgia and I'm hooked. It's about the only way I will eat pickles, haha.

Yes, fried pickles are glorious.  I prefer chip pickles over spears when they are fried.

  • @rockymountaingirl88 I just can't do it! Even the thought of trying anything pickle related makes me gag. The odd part is I love cucumbers.

Totally irrational fear, I know. I've gotten a lot better with it. Before I couldn't eat my food if I saw pickle on my plate, now I just have someone remove the pickle and eat what's on the other half of the plate that the pickle wasn't on.

That's the problem with sushi...it's the one food I literally can't make at home so have to get out now and then. I know you can, technically, but I want only the pros dealing with raw fish.

I love all asian food.  That's my weakness.  It all tastes so yummy!  I think we may be going on a date this weekend and hit our favorite mongolian bbq place.
