NBR: Semi Damaged Product (Amazon related)

I have a random question for you ladies.  I have extremely poor lighting in my house so I finally broke down and bought a make up mirror through a seller on Amazon.  I have several issues with it.  One, the on/off button is sticky and you have to hit it multiple times to get it to stay and the mirror itself is a little loose.  I was going to exchange it through Amazon, but I can't because I purchased it from another seller.

Honestly, I don't really want to go through the hassle of boxing it up and sending it out even if the seller will replace it.  Do you think it's working asking for a partial credit?  I know the company I work for would absolutely do it in the name of customer service, but is this standard practice across markets? I'm such a pushover that I would just accept whatever they told me, but I would try to push if it's something that really should be done.

  • Chances are, they'll tell you to go through the seller. However, Amazon has amazing customer service so it wouldn't hurt to ask. The worst they can do is say no.

I was thinking that I'd have to contact the seller for the partial credit, is that not right?

Honestly, I've had such good luck with Amazon that I've never had to do this with them!

Sorry.  I misunderstood your post.  Yes, you'd have to do that.

What if the seller only gives you like a 10% refund?

If I were you, I'd ask for a full refund minus the cost of shipping (since you don't want to ship it back.) Then let the seller counter from there.

    I like your style. ;)  That's a good idea.

Definitely call or write Amazon Customer Service!  I recently had a product from a third-party seller arrive damaged, and one day late.  (normally I wouldn't mind arrival one day late, but I specifically chose that seller because of the prime shipping, when I could have bought it for less without a prime shipping option from another.)  On my email asking me to rate the seller, it said before submitting any negative feedback to contact Amazon Customer service with a link, so I did.  I submitted two complaints (because they were different options, one for damaged item, one for late shipment) but noted in each submission that I was submitting a separate complaint for the other reason.  I think it asked if you would like a refund or replacement of a damaged item, and I stated refund, so I'd have the option from ordering from another seller.

I got a reply in just a few hours.  They refunded my  money for the damaged item and told me to feel free to do whatever I wanted with it - keep and use it, throw it out, etc., no need to return it.  Then they gave me an additional $20 credit for not meeting the guaranteed 2 day prime shipping delivery.

Definitely call Amazon Customer service first before trying to deal directly with the seller.  They are the best!
