Red Bank NJ

Hi guys -

So my BF and I are going on a little road trip to Red Bank NJ in a couple months. BF wants to go to Jay and Silent Bob's comic book shop so we decided to make a weekend out of it for his birthday.

Anyway - I've heard from some people that have been there it is a super cute town and there is a lot of little shops ect. So we are planning on spending most of the day right in that area - shopping/eating/sight seeing . . . My question to anyone who has been there is how much walking is there exactly? Are there a lot of hills/inclines? BF has a fake knee that can act up sometimes (as long as he wears his brace, and the walking is on paved flat ground he usually has no issue at all) and I want to make sure he is comfortable - but I also want to have fun! (I know that sounds really selfish . . . but I've gotta be honest!)

We are staying in a hotel in Long Branch which is a 15 minute drive and I was just thinking about taking a taxi there and back so we didn't have to deal with parking (some reviews I've read/people I've talked to say its a PIA - and costs $$ - So I would rather just spend on a taxi).

Is Red Bank too big to walk around that much? Should we taxi or park?

Thanks in advance guys!

Re: Red Bank NJ

  • It's been a while, but I rode my bike through that whole area for a fundraising event a few years ago.  I don't think it's too hilly, if I recall correctly.
  • I've been to Red Bank on occasion (but not recently!) and I've always parked and didn't have a problem.  I'd do that over a taxi, for sure.  Pretty sure alot of it is flat, but again, it's been awhile.

If you're staying in Long Branch, going in warmer weather and like the beach, head over to Seven President's Beach.  It's one of my favorite beaches to go to in the summer.
  • Awesome thanks guys!

We are going Easter Weekend - so I'm assuming it won't be warm enough for the beach at that point. . . . .  and we are only going for a 3 day weekend - so we don't have a ton of time to do 'extra' things other than the ones we have planned. But maybe I'll talk to him about going saturday afternoon if its warm enough!
  • I live 15 minutes from Red Bank. It's a great town, very quaint with lots of nice independent stores to check out. There are no hills or inclines, it's very flat and has paved sidewalks. There are municipal parking lots in Red Bank as well as street parking (though that is limited). I haven't found problems with parking in Red Bank, but I tend to go off-peak (weekdays during the day, or late at night..) Not sure how it'd be on a weekend, when I know parking is free.

If you're staying in Long Branch, I'm guessing you're staying at Ocean Place Resort, which is really nice. Try the spa if you get a chance ;)

Some of my favorite restaurants in Red Bank are: Buena Sera (Italian), Teak (Asian Fusion), Red, and Dish.

I thought I was on the wrong page when I opened this and saw "Red Bank NJ" on top! I live in Red Bank. The Holiday Inn is on one of the major roads (aka-not pretty) and it will probably cost you more to take a taxi than to park in town. The only time that is difficult to park is at night if there is a concert at the Count Basie Theater. Daytime is not a problem at all. Sundays are free parking. Did you check rates at the Molly Pitcher Inn? Sometimes they have good deals and you can walk into town from there. And it's MUCH nicer than the Holiday Inn. It's flat and you can walk one end of the town to the other in about 10 minutes but there are lots of side streets. There's also the river as well. I can't see spending more than a few hours there. Also, if you are coming on Easter weekend - stores will be closed on Sunday. Do you have something planned for that day? It is end of April but based on the weather we have been having, it will be too cool for real beach activities although a walk on the boardwalk could be nice. You can take a drive through Rumson which has amazing homes (Bruce Springsteen used to live there), BonJovi's home is on the other side of the river on Navesink River Road. There is a great local restaurant in Rumson on the river that anyone here would highly recommend... Barnacle Bills (burgers, seafood) Always at least an hour wait for dinner on weekend but not as bad for lunch. Great views of the river. Pier Village in Long Branch has good restaurants, boardwalk and some shopping too. Asbury Park is not that far and there's shopping and boardwalk too. I'll check back in case you have any other questions!

Thanks so much for the information!!!
We have pretty much decided to drive there and park from what others have said - nixed that taxi idea.
I already have reservations at the Holiday Inn - but if we end up going back to Red Bank then we will look into that other hotel for sure! I love supporting local businesses - plus it would be nice to stay in a local hotel as opposed to a chain sometimes.
We will look into that area in Long Branch too - maybe we'll spend the day in Red Bank then the evening in Long Branch (pretty sure that holiday inn is in Long Branch anyway . . . have to double check. . . ) but honestly - BF may take a few HOURS in that comic book store . . . . oh how I can't wait for that . . . hahaha.

And thank you for the heads up on being closed on Easter - but we will actually be heading over to the Adventure Aquarium just outside of pittsburgh in the morning then heading on back home. I'm pretty excited to be getting out! Little cabin fever the past few weeks!!!

Thank you so much for the info again!!!
  • Not hilly at all; its on the shores of a river.

There's not that much walking but also be aware Red Bank is pricey.
  • LOVE Red Bank!  We've been there twice in the last year, both times including a stop at J&SBSS.  Love the guys there - so nice!  Parking is kind of expensive, I think it was like 25 cents for 15 minutes so I would recommend a taxi.  It's a beautiful walking town - very flat, very easy walking.  The shops or boutiques are on the more expensive side but it's definitely a good time to window shop.   Have Fun!

That was not supposed to happen; it was out of frustration!
I couldn't post and then it posted the face but no text.  Then I couldn't delete!
I really wan't even going to respond to your question!  I've been out of the loop for a while!

Sorry!  Have a great time in Red Bank!

  • Yeah we kinda figured it would be on the pricey side just because of location - we've budgeted for that. And I'm getting pretty excited! I'm glad its its not exactly super hilly!!! Can't wait!!

And no worries @MommaK.not! things happen!
