Oh, Barnes & Noble. Random.

Why does everything have to be SO MUCH CHEAPER on their website than it is in the store?  Seriously, the Jefferson book I just ordered is $20 in the store and $10+change online.  And then you have to spend whatever to get free shipping, and I am inevitably always like $2 away from free shipping.  You guys, I so rarely buy books anymore, I think I just used a gift card from last year's birthday.  So, since I needed to spend $2 more, I just also ordered my book on President Garfield, even though I haven't even read Jefferson yet.  But I already knew which one I wanted to read and it was under $10!

Re: Oh, Barnes & Noble. Random.

  • And what bugs me even more is that they don't price match their website if you ask in store.  >:P

  • Before getting Amazon Prime, we had a B&N membership. It sounds expensive, but when you factor in free shipping and the web only discounts it's worth it- that is if you buy books on a semi-regular basis.

  • I used to have a B&N membership, but when I stopped buying as many books, it just wasn't worth it anymore.  I had it for a few years, though, and it was totally worth it for me then, I agree.
  • I really wish B&N would step up their game.  I really, really don't want to switch to Amazon.  I've avoided them successfully for several years.  I WANT there to be competition and I will support the competition.  But I feel like B&N pushes me towards Amazon with their horrible customer service, weird online/in-store pricing differences, and the removal of half the books from the store in favor of stationery and board games.

  • Really? I love my local B&N and get great service there. I have even gone in for Nook troubleshooting, and the Nook specialist was super helpful. I do keep my membership up, but that is mostly because I give children's books as a gift to most kids I have to buy books for, so that makes it worth it to me. And I love the free shipping!

I don't have Prime, so I am in the position of having to find enough stuff to buy on Amazon to get free shipping, and it annoys me that not everything counts toward the total you need.
