SBC - Eleanor and Park (sp)

I read Eleanor and Park for the SBC category "read a book that it seems like everyone but you has read". I thought this book was beautifully written and there were multiple times I stopped reading before I really wanted to just to make it last for another day. Having just finished it I'm still not entirely sure what to think about the ending...on one hand I loved it and the open ended possibilities, on the other hand I had spent so many pages feeling sad that at the very end when there was a light of hope I felt I needed more than that to overcome all the sadness I was feeling. Not sure if that made any sense or not :p

Re: SBC - Eleanor and Park (sp)

  • I usually need a happily-ever-after to feel satisfied at the end of a book, but this ending worked for me. I guess it was because I assumed that if Eleanor finally worked up the courage to say those three words, then she was invested in the relationship and would keep it going.

But yeah, there was a lot of sadness. I'm conflicted about seeing the movie for this reason. I loved the book, but I don't want to see all that neglect and abuse on screen.

    I wrote this!
  • Yea...I'm not sure about the movie either....the longer I sit with the ending the more I like it, but initially right after I was still too caught up in the sadness.
