My FI and I are in the process of closing on our first home. Through the offer/counter offer process the seller asked the realtor's to take a cut on their commission to meet at my offer. Our realtor has been really helpful and have given us tons of information and has always been very accommodating to our schedules and I feel bad that his commission is being cut.
Is this typical? Should we get him a nice gift?
thanks!
Re: Realtor Gift
Agreed, you don't have to get a gift. They just made a ton of money off that sale, and if they are full time they're probably getting several commission checks a month. Think of it this way, if you bought a $250K house that's a $7500 check for the REA. That's more than what some people make in a month. But ultimately it's up to you.
In your situation, I would definitely give my realtor a gift since they agreed to have their commission cut so you all could move forward with the sale. Granted, it also meant he got some commission instead of no commission if the sale hadn't gone through. But still. I like the suggestions of a gift card.
I didn't give my realtor a gift. She did a good job, but nothing above and beyond. I've definitely referred her to others, though unfortunately I don't think anything has come of it yet. At closing, she gave me a small gift and I've always thought that was so sweet!
