NBR: Runners - Road ID?

I've been putting my drivers license in my arm band when I run, which is fine, except when I forget to move it back to my wallet.  It's time to invest in something else for identification when I am out there.  I just picked up a flyer for Road ID at our running store last week.  Any other options?  What do you use for identification when you run?

  • Nothing.  When I get mauled by a black bear, I will be screwed.  LOL.

I don't carry ID but I don't run very far and always on major pathways nor am I consistent enough with my running ;-) When I do start running further I will get a road ID.

I begged my DH to get one when he was training for a marathon so he now has one and it makes me feel so much better. They are nice because the tag doesn't carry much info. Name and one contact I think? But you log into their site and it has medical insurance etc. So if it is loss it needs to be reported asap but if it is loss and it is reported your info is still safe.

He doesn't like wearing anything extra on him while running but has never had an issue with the ID band.

  • I bought one for dh last year since he runs and bikes on the road. I know a few people who have been hit by cars so it's definitely a possibility. When I ordered his I got one for me too. I mainly run on the sidewalks in our neighborhood but you never know what might happen.

I got both of ours as the ones that go on your shoe. It's very easy and don't notice at all. I'm glad we have them

  • I used to have one but it got lost in a move at some point. I had the kind that attached to my shoe so it was nothing extra to carry around. I really liked the peace of mind having one brought. I'll definitely be buying another one soon!
  • I never even thought about this. I run mostly on sidewalks through neighborhoods around my work, but I guess you never know what could happen/when.

I do carry my phone because that is how I listen to music and track with GPS, so I guess if anything were to happen someone could look through my contacts to find someone to call.

  • 1) DH is a cop so running without an ID does not fly.  :)  (Though I have done it may times.)

    2) I read a book years ago about a guy who dropped dead while running and he had no ID on him and they ended up with a case of mistaken identity and it was horrible.  (Fiction, yes, but still on my mind.)

    3) @brittk0486 I run with my phone too and have the ICE contact but what if someone robs me of my phone?!?!?!  :P

DH has one since he runs and bikes a lot. He's had it for years and wears it 24/7. He recommends it.

I have the Slim Road ID bracelet.  :)  I think it was $15?

It's the size of a cause bracelet (e.g. livestrong bracelet)

  • One thing about phones is most of us have them locked so if a good Samaritan would have difficulty using to contact someone for you. But I usually have mine on me too. And my dogs have my name on them so I figure they are my ID too.

even though I don't have one yet, I am a big proponent of wearing ID. I will in the near future. Dh thinks I am crazy with all my "what if" scenarios but I don't care
